Roger Long Obituary

Roger Lee Long, 82, of Strasburg, VA, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Winchester Health & Rehabilitation.

Mr. Long was born in Winchester, VA, on December 27, 1943, the son of the late Garland Lee and Lena Putman Long. He was a former member of the Strasburg Moose Lodge, enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved a good western movie and worked as a manufacturing machine welder with Ashworth Brothers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Catherine Golliday Long; a sister Christina Long Pine; sisters-in-law Peggy Smith (Richard Smith), Shirley Stokes (Bill Stokes), and Barbara Sue Fravel.

Survivors include his beloved daughter Lori Ann Long Shafer and husband Roger Norman Shafer; grandchildren Diana Shafer, Rachel Shafer; his niece Suprena Fay along with a brother-in-law Dennis Fravel.

A graveside service for Mr. Long will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Middletown, VA.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Fravel, Roger Shafer, Herbie Kline, Cordell Watt, John Wesley Taylor, Jr., and William F. Willis.
