Ruth Funkhouser Obituary


Ruth Marie Sager Funkhouser, 88, of Woodstock, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Woodstock.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Maurertown Brethren Church with Pastor Richard Craver officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Front Royal at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Mrs. Funkhouser was born January 10, 1929 in Woodstock, a daughter of the late Hubert Franklin and Esta Celina McWilliams Sager.

She was a member of Maurertown Brethren Church, was a homemaker and formerly worked at Frank's in Front Royal and J.J. Newberrys as a sales clerk.

She was the wife of William Silas Funkhouser.

Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Cherie F. Armel of Charleston, South Carolina and Brenda F. Riley and husband Stan of Slainsville, West Virginia; a brother, William Sager and wife Frances of Winchester; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Jean Glasscock; a son, Charles Michael Funkhouser; and a number of siblings.

Pallbearers will be Scott Armel, Todd Armel, Charles Haines. Jared Riley and Corey Poland.

The family will receive friends at the Maurertown Brethren Church on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

One of the nicest people I've ever met. I can't remember a time that she didn't have a pleasant smile on her face. Surely there's another Angel in Heaven. RIP Mrs. Funkhouser.God bless you. Sincere regards to Mr. Funkhouser, Cherie and Brenda. Sorry I can't be there.
