Jerry Gilmore Obituary

Gone too soon … Our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather slipped away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, with his loving wife, Dottie, of 58 years, by his side.
He was born July 27, 1931 in Munson, Fla. The youngest of eight siblings, he was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Cleveland Gilmore and Sarah Lydia Kilpatrick Gilmore; as well as brothers, Roy, Ralph, Leon, Jim; and sister, Helen Clary. He has two surviving sisters, Mary Dot Phifer and Millie Lober.
He has owned and operated a successful family business, Gilmore Moving & Storage, since 1958 and was always proud of his loyal crew. His accomplishments, escapades and endeavors in his lifetime are far too many to list and would "fill a book," which we all hoped he would write. He was the most loving, honorable, hardworking, giving man and loved his family with all of his heart. Anyone who knew him knows he lived life to the fullest with his loving wife, his best friend, always by his side and that he lived it "his way." He maintained his great sense of humor to the very end.
He is survived by his children: son, Mike (Wende) Gilmore, and daughters, Rynn Gilmore, Sharon (Ron) Dorsch and Pamela (David) Plate; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be forever in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Humane Society or a charity of your choosing. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Heritage Gardens Funeral Home, 2201 N. Partin Dr., Niceville, FL, Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012 with Services at 11 a.m. and a Celebration of Life, as he would wish, to follow at Elks Lodge #1795, Okaloosa Island, Fort Walton Beach. You may offer the family condolences at www.heritagegardensfuneralhome.com.

I did not realize Mr. Gilmore passed away until today. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. As an old friend who went to school with Sharon and Pam, my heart goes out to you and your entire family. I can remember from years ago, the closely-knit bond your family seemed to have, and of course, Mr. Gilmore has been an "icon" in this community for as long as I can remember. I am sure he will be greatly missed by many. May God comfort you all through your sorrow and pain with his enduring peace and love.

Dear Dot, I pray the Lord will heal the pain in your heart and replace it with wonderful memories. I had forgotten that Mickie's birthday was the same as mine, just a different year. My year is 1933.
I have made it to the reunions so far, but it is getting harder to travel. Maybe next time I am in Pensacola things may line up, so we will be able to meet and visit. God Bless you,
Jeanne Perdue Layman

Thanks everyone. My uncle Mickey was and will always be a special person in my life. He gave me the courage and assistance to open my
moving company along with my partner Sharon when I was twenty two. He treated me like a son, taught Sharon and I the ropes and scolded me when I needed to be. I am grateful for our family bond. His oldest daughter Sharon Gilmore Dorsch and I were partners for almost twenty five years. Aunt Dottie, Sharon Dorsch, Pam Plate, Rynn Gilmore, Michael Gilmore my prayers are with you and will forever be. I love you all so very much.

My heart is saddened by the loss of Uncle Mickey! What I can recall, of cherished family memories, he was such a kind hearted, loving and precious being! A true family man! My sincere condolences go out to my Aunt Dottie and the rest of his family! I feel your pain....however, it will become easier to cope with, in time, when you have your "FAITH" and know he is in a better place and will always be by your side! Much love to you all, during this difficult time! xx

What a great man we were blessed to have known. I remember Mickey from a very early age and my father bringing me to your home. Through the years his movers relocated our family many times. My father and Mickey along with Gage Boyd had lunch at the High Tide not long before my dad passed. They laughed and talked about their good old times and it was good to see them together. My mother and I saw Mickey and Dottie in Biloxi and they both looked so great, he had a smile that made everyone feel special. I know your loss is heavy at this time, our thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire family. I thank God he was in my life. A good man, a great friend, we will all miss him.

I have many fond memories of babysitting at the Gilmore household back in the 60s and hold a special place in my heart for Mr. Gilmore and his kindness toward my sister, Liz during her illness. Please know I am thinking of all of you and remembering. May you all be comforted by God's presence during this time. Anne Hutchison Lavigueur

I always remember Uncle Mickey with a smile on his face. And it was a smile that would light up a room. Sweet hearted and kind to everyone.......the world is a better place today because he lived.
