John Stevens Obituary

Retired Lt. Col. John "Stain" Stevens, age 51, of Navarre, Fla., passed away unexpectedly Jan. 22, 2010.
John was born on Dec. 18, 1958, in Spokane, Wash. After serving 31 years in the U.S. Air Force he retired in Navarre. John was a C-130 pilot and spent the majority of this career in Special Ops. He was proud to have served his country.
John was preceded in death by his brother, William. Survivors include his wife, Laura; father, David and wife Mary Ann; mother, Carol Perkne and husband Chip; brother, Michael and wife Janette; sister, Julie and husband Mark Jennings; and half-brothers, Richard and Robert Reese. His children include daughter, Sarah and husband Mike Martin; daughter, Jessica Wise; and son, David; as well as stepchildren, Corey, Ben, Nicolle and Jennifer; and 11 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 28 at Hurlburt Field Base Chapel with a viewing at 9:30 a.m. He will be interred at Barrancas National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation at www.specialops.org.

My thoughts and prayers are you with you all! 'Stain' was a great guy and I know he was such a good friend to many. I met John in England and have since been around him again in Florida. The world has lost a wonderful man. God bless you all!!

Stain was a unique and fine human that loved his friends, family and country. The world has lost many future memories and will never shine quite as brightly without him in it. I am so fortunate to have been his friend. Cherish the memories.

John was a good man, a brother in arms and a dedicated aviator. I have great memories of John and was sad to hear of his passing. Will be piping a tune for him tonight. My thoughts and prayers are with Laura and the family.

Naval Special Warfare mourns the loss of John Stevens. John was a "Plank Holder" in the Special Operations Mission Planning Family. He was a personal friend and a friend of all special operators. John will be missed.
