Died: May 10, 2016; in Lake Zurich, IL
Alta E. Gierke, age 95, of Spring Grove, IL, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at Lexington Health Care Center of Lake Zurich.
She was born October 9, 1920, in Chicago to Henry and Anna (Bendel) Wittig. On June 4, 1942, she married Harold Gierke in Chicago, IL. Alta and Harold raised their children in the Chicago suburbs and eventually moved to McHenry in the late 1970's, Alta was a devout member of Shepherd of the Hills Church. Enjoyments during her lifetime included cross stitch, spending vacation time with family in Boulder Junction, WI and was dedicated to making a happy home. Alta is remembered as a great conversationalist to her family and friends. She loved her family deeply and will be missed dearly.
Survivors include three children, Penny (Allan) Gottinger, Linda (Dennis) Gerstung and Dean (Jody) Gierke; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Paul) Dettman, Kari Gottinger, Cory (Katie) Gerstung, Stephanie (Matt) Duffy, Jeremey (Jeanne) Butler and Sean Butler; nine great granchildren, Kaitlin, Madalyn, Devin, Adriana, Kenadee, Jaymeson, Brooke, Ethan and Austin; two sisters, Dorothy (the late Ed) Noren and Betty (the late Bill) Dahme; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Alta was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years Harold "Bud" on December 14, 2007, two grandchildren, Jason and Dennis Gerstung; sister, Pearl Van Emelen and brother, Clifford Wittig.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2016, at Justen Funeral Home, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. The memorial service will be 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
