Anthony DeMay Obituary

Anthony Raymond "Bones" DeMay
Anthony Raymond "Bones" DeMay, 64, of Harvard, IL passed away peacefully Monday, January 6, 2025, in Barrington, IL following a brief illness and a seven-year battle with Parkinson's Dementia.
Born on January 4, 1961, in Harvard, to Joan Rae and Anthony DeMay. Tony was the second born of their four children. "Tony Jr." or "Little Tony" was a very dedicated and loving son.
As a youth, he was a bit of a daredevil and on the morning of September 7, 1974, he proved it so. Inspired by Robert "Evil" Knievel, he became Tony "Devil" DeMay and launched himself, literally, into neighborhood lore.
Using primitive gear, even by 1974 standards, he peddled down the entire block of N. Hayes, from McKinley to Brown, and successfully jumped 10 garbage cans–appropriated from the generous folks on Grant and Hayes streets–at the northeast corner of Stricker's vacant lot. In 1994 a plaque was installed to mark the 20th anniversary and location of the historic jump.
A 1979 graduate of Harvard High School and Hittin' Hornet to his core, Tony played on Mic Steven's 1977 undefeated conference championship team. During his senior year in 1978, he earned All-Area honors as a kick return specialist and free-flying Plank-esque play at defensive safety. Decades later, Tony would return to Dan Horne Field and the Hornets as an assistant varsity coach under Tim Haak from 2007 to 2014. He also coached freshman basketball. Coaching was a passion for him as was golf.
An avid and life-long golfer, Tony was a single-digit handicap and owner of multiple holes-in-one. He loved being an active member of Plum Tree National Golf Club and attending the Masters and the 1990 U.S. Open.
Tony was a good natured and warm guy with a rascal's sense of fun. He loved to laugh and had an appetite for hearing and telling a good story. He was proud of his Sicilian heritage, and enjoyed cooking, fine dining, and a good Manhattan. He will be missed as a supportive and loving brother and loyal friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Joan DeMay; his brother Craig DeMay; his uncle Joseph DeMay; his cousin Joseph John DeMay; his grandparents Vincenzo Iannacco, Vincenza Mantia and Raymond Goodall, Violet Goodall and Margaret Kjos.
He is survived by his partner, Patricia Kyle; his siblings Michael and Chris DeMay and Michelle (Dan) Guttschow; his aunt Judy DeMay; his cousin Deborah Reising; his niece Lindsay (Michael) Clarke; his nephew Enzo DeMay; and great nephews Michael and Camden Clarke.
There will be a memorial celebration for Tony from 1 - 4 PM Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the Harvard Sportsman's Club, 21226 US-14, Harvard, IL 60033.
