Anthony F. Gilio, Sr., age 87, of Spring Grove, peacefully passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023, at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born on Monday, May 18, 1936, in Chicago, to Frank and Eleanor (Zawlik) Gilio. He was a 1955 graduate of Tuley High School in Chicago. Upon graduating, he worked until he was drafted into the United States Army on September 2, 1959, serving our fine country until his discharge in September 1,1961. On April 26, 1986, Anthony married the love of his life, Carol (Morettti) Gilio.
Anthony worked on both the Milwaukee and Soo Line Railroads for most of his career. He enjoyed participating in truck rodeos where he challenged himself alongside other drivers to display his driving abilities through the demonstration of vehicle handling on closed set driving courses. He won several championships throughout his rodeo days. Off the rodeo, Anthony was more than a good dancer and certainly could cut a rug on the dance floor. He enjoyed spending time outdoors vacationing with his daughter, grandson and wife in the beautiful Smokey Mountains of Tennessee where they went for 31 years. Also, gardening and spending time with his sons fishing.
Left behind to treasure Anthony's memory are his loving wife of 37 years, Carol; daughter, Debbie Gilio; sons, Anthony Jr., Mario Gilio; stepsons, David, Donald, Daniel Biedzinski; stepdaughter, Anna Marie (Eugene) Harrison; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Ann (the late John) Scala; many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; son, Frank Gilio; brother, Paul Gilio.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024, from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Thompson Spring Grove Funeral Home, 8103 Wilmot Road, Spring Grove, IL. 60081
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at Thompson Spring Grove Funeral Home, 8103 Wilmot Road, Spring Grove, IL.
Interment will take place in Ringwood Cemetery in Ringwood, IL.
