With much heartfelt grief, family and friends lost Chad Dorn on July 25, 2024 at the age of 47. Chad was a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, son-in-law, and friend who will be deeply missed. Along with his compassionate heart, intellect, and humor, he will be remembered for his adventurous spirit. Chad was an avid outdoorsman who loved mountain biking, skiing, hiking, and backpacking. He also had an artistic side and was an aspiring woodworker and guitar player.
Chad graduated from Crystal Lake Central H.S. and then from St. Norbert College.
After undergrad, Chad lived in Ecuador for nine years, as a volunteer in support of working children and their families and then as a teacher in international schools. This paved the way to his second career path of supporting communities and neighborhoods through numerous academic, social, and political avenues.
In 2018, Chad earned his PhD in Social and Comparative Analysis of Education. Most recently, he worked for Leading to Movement as Director of Community Impact and Evaluation. He was also an adjunct professor at Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ.
Chad was married to Kate Porigow, the love of his life, for nearly six years. They cherished building a life together, in both the mundane and adventurous.
In addition to his wife, Chad is survived by his father, Robert Dorn; brothers, Dave (Holly) Dorn and Eric (Jennifer) Dorn; father-in-law, Dave Porigow; mother-in-law, Jill Worthington; and brother-in-law, Alex Porigow. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Chad was preceded in death by his mother, Jean (Engbrecht) Dorn.
