I remember David and I and someone else (can't remember who) playing with a can of Mace and accidentally spraying each other, really stupid kid stuff. Yes, Eddie, he was one of the Maple Street boys. I have good memories of playing baseball and such at the ball field at Locust next to my house. I haven't really been in touch with my Marengo friends since I left in the late 70s and I regret not knowing many people as adults. My condolences to the family, I'm sure Dave was a great Dad and Grandpa.

Jack and I are so shocked that Dave passed away. He was a true friend and a wonderful man. We were so lucky to have you both as our friends. I will not forget the good times we had watching the football games at Al's and wondering what fabulous dish he was going to make. We always looked forward to that. Our hearts go out to you Denise and family. We will miss him dearly. We pray for you to help you get through this difficult time.

I knew Dave best as one of the Maple Street gang. Maple Street was a neighborhood, but to those of us growing up there, it was more like a brotherhood where childhood camaraderies turned into lifelong bonds.
Even though time caused Dave and I to drift apart, our old friendship was never in doubt. Seeing Dave around town every so often, our greeting was always genuine and sincere. We knew one another beyond casual friendship, because the Maple Street gang grew up into adulthood embracing the same values that we learned growing up together in our youth. When such a life-long friend as Dave leaves us, so too does a part of our youth.
Our deepest heartfelt sympathy goes out to Denise, Nicki, Ben, brother Tom, and the entire Shadle family. May you rest in peace with our Heavenly Father my friend, you will not soon be forgotten.
