Peggy-Deb-Scott...John's message today sent me back about 40 years and into shock. It has been a long time, but men like Dave don't come along very often and are also remembered for a long-long time. A special truth a wonderful 55 year old lady told me as she visited her oncologist for the last time at the U.W. Hospital several years ago: "A long life is not necessarily a good life. And a good life is long enough." Selfishly, tho, don't we all want the good and great ones around at least as long as we are around?

I was a former basketball teammate of Dave in high school and considered him a good friend. I remember he was so proud and excited to get a letter from the Naval Academy offering him a basketball scholarship when he showed it to me.

I've know the Stone family since I was 5 years old. Mrs. Stone would come to our farm weekly every summer to buy vegetables that we grew and sold - however, that was many years ago.
I was so sad to hear about David dying so young - he was such a good person and a wonderful example of a great American! He will be missed.

Wow, an impressive life he led. What I find really great, is that he started out in a little midwestern town, went on to Washington and a great career, and yet he still remembers those people and place that made him such a geat American. BRAVO !!!
