David Witchie Obituary

David Witchie
Dave was born and raised in Fox River Grove where he attended grade school and graduated from Barrington H.S. He was a member of Carpenter's Local 2087, a superintendent for Adjustable Forms in Lombard IL, where he worked most of his career. He worked for other companies as well, Two in One and Illinois Contractors to name a few. Dave retired from carpentry, but being the workaholic he was, he took up gentleman's farming in Harvard, IL. He had so much fun; he opened The Vegg Shed in Tony V's Pizzeria's backyard. He even learned a bit about beekeeping. Following his stroke in 2016, Dave had to stop farming, and retired to Cape Coral, Florida in 2020.
When not working, Dave shared his love of sports (all sports) with his sons. He coached Tee Ball to Little League, and of course his favorite game of all, basketball in Fox River Grove and Cary. Some of his favorite times were spent playing hockey with the local dads and kids on the ponds across the street from his house.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Witchie Sr. and Evelyn Hime Witchie Salcedo. Dave is survived by his wife, Cathy (Warnock) Witchie and their sons, David Jr. (DJ) Witchie of Cary, and Brian (Courtney McNamara) Witchie of Woodstock, 3 granddaughters, Kora Lee Witchie of Woodstock, Emma Mae Witchie of Florida and Georgia Rose Witchie of Woodstock, his 6 brothers, Ed/Karen Witchie of Indiana, Walt Witchie of Iowa, his twin brother Michael/Stacy Witchie of Aurora IL, Jeff/Lilia Witchie of Mexico, Adam/Maria Witchie of Florida, Dan Salcedo of Gurnee IL and step brother David Kirby of Chicago. Dave's brothers were incredibly supportive. From the start Adam & Jeff came to our rescue; Jeff helped get Dave from Florida to IL where we had hoped to find good medical help. Mike was so good at getting Dave to laugh. Dave is also survived by his Uncle Stanley Himes/Rhonda of Pennsylvania, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was especially close to his cousins Brian/Kelli Ferry of Pennsylvania and Bill/Lou Hauck of Cary. Dave had a special relationship with his brothers-in-law, Will/Linda Warnock of Cary and Rich/Alyssa Warnock of Crystal Lake. Although Dave had plenty of family to enrich his life, he was blessed with dear friends, as well who surrounded him upon his return to IL seeking diagnosis. Tom McNamara and Ron LaRoach came to see him on a regular basis, Joe/Lori Stanger and Steve/Val Kulovsek were at the house almost daily, encouraging Dave and helping the family.
Dave passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 1st, surrounded with love, being held by Cathy, DJ, Brian, Courtney and his granddaughter Georgie. Dave leaves this earth a very wealthy man.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Dave on Saturday, 2/8/25 from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, Cary.

I was one of Jeff Wichie's best friends way back in the mid 70's and Dave always treated me like one of his friends. Sorry to learn of his passing. It was so great to be around the Witchie boys back in those days!

I am so sorry to hear of Dave's passing, he was such a wonderful guy. Both he and Cathy were the nicest, most supportive people I ever met when I moved to Harvard. It seemed as if they were always in a good mood and willing to help with anything. I was very sad when I heard they were moving to Florida. It's always hard when good friends move away. I know every time I heard Florida was bracing for a hurricane, I worried so much about them. I still think about them often and I miss them.
I send my best wishes for Dave as he ascends to heaven. Cathy, I send you tons of hugs and well wishes.

I have so many memories of its hard to chose one but playing hockey on the ponds stands out the most. The dads in the area and the kids looked so forward to playing everyday. Dave maintained the ponds as if it were his own personal rink to, he was out there everynight spraying it down, smoothing it to make it like a prorink. Brian and Courtney developed there love for one another on that ice as DJ with Brian helped their dad with the maintenance. Hope there some good rinks in heaven waiting for the day to lace on the skates again.....thanks Dave for so many great memories Tom.
