Donald Devine Obituary

Donald W. Devine
Died: September 3, 2021
Don Devine passed peacefully the 3rd of September surrounded by love with his devoted wife, Deborah, and best friend, Jimmy, by his side. While Don insisted on describing himself as a simple man and 'nobody special,' many who have experienced his presence would describe his ability to connect with, love and support others as nothing short of extraordinary.
All who know him would describe Don as 'family first.' Don loved his wife, or as he described her, "his girlfriend and love of his life," Deborah, his daughters Stephanie and Breah, and his 4 grandchildren profusely. His most joyous moments were those spent in their presence, just watching them enjoy time together, learn and grow. Don also considered many of his friends his family. His friendships were rich and meaningful, and this was evident in the incredible way his community came together to love, support, and connect with him daily throughout his fight for health.
A 48-year member of the Crystal Lake and Cary communities, Don also made a positive impact on many locally in his roles as Teacher, Athletic Director, and Wrestling Coach at Cary Grove High School, Rotary Member and trusted advisor as an independent State Farm Agent. He was very thankful to have been able to raise his family in such a wonderful community and to have had the chance to connect with individuals in his various roles.
To celebrate Don's life, his family knew he would be so pleased if we invited his community to continue a commitment he made annually in an anonymous fashion, supporting kids with limited financial resources graduating from his school district in Bloomington, IL, in continuing their education. To contribute mail a check to:

Don's family also wanted to create an opportunity for his community to come together and honor two of his other passions, being a good steward of our health and caring for those he loved. We invite you to use this moment of reflection on the preciousness of health and life and join the Life Celebration Challenge – Don Devine group on Facebook. We are hosting a rolling 30-day challenge (begin when you join) where we invite you to focus on working towards one health-oriented goal that will add richness to your own life. Invite your friends and family to join you and set their own goals, because in the end family, friends, faith and health are truly what matter most. Every year when we award a scholarship at Bloomington High School it reminds me of what a generous and kind man Don was to everyone. He started this scholarship and because of him and the generousity of his friends we are able to continue to bless another student each year. You are an angel shinning from heaven Don!!

As we continue to give out a scholarship each year in our fathers name (J.W. "Bill" Scott) our love for Don and his family grows. He is responsible for starting this scholarship. We will always be grateful for the opportunity that he has given to so many graduates at Bloomington High School. Don's commitment to education and young people was remarkable. We are so honored his wonderful family helped us carry on this scholarship. We miss you so much Don. Love Jeff/Gay Scott, Janice/Jerry Vitton, and Janenne Scott

Don was a gift to so many. He was kind and generous to all who were fortunate to know him. Our family will always be grateful for the scholarship he started in our fathers name at Bloomington High School. Don was the person who walked into a room who never wanted attention but always observed and took care to listen and take care of others. His family was his true joy!

Our family remembers Donnie fondly for his generosity and remembering his roots. He started the senior scholarship fund at Bloomington High School, Bloomington, Illinois, in memory of our Father, J.W. "Bill" Scott who passed away in1967. It has helped and will help many students.
