Elisabeth T. Lay, age 89, of McHenry, IL formerly of Northbrook passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024, with her family by her side. She was born in Haselbach, Landkreise Passau, Bavaria (Germany) to Josef and Elisabeth (Kasbauer) Anetsberger on Sept 14, 1934, where she along with her 4 siblings and parents lived and worked the family farm enduring a modest upbringing and a personal firsthand account of WWII. At the age of 21 she came to America with her uncle to live and work at the family business in Northbrook. On May 25, 1963, she married the love of her life Richard J. Lay in St. Norbert church in Northbrook. She enjoyed her early morning walks, the harvest from her garden, baking, and the love of her family gathering for every holiday, especially her grandchildren. Elisabeth is survived by her three children: Donald (Kristine), Richard and James (Samantha); seven grandchildren: Matthew, Tyler, Jeremy, Brett, Micaela, Ryan and Charlie and one sister: Theresa. Elisabeth was preceded in death by her parents: Josef and Elisabeth, husband: Richard, sister: Maria and two brothers: Georg and Josef (Pepi). Friends and family may gather together on Wednesday, July 31 at the Holy Apostle church at 5211 West Bull Valley Road, McHenry for a visitation from 9:00 am – 10:00 am with a funeral mass to follow.
