Eugene Gulgren Obituary

Eugene M. Gulgren
Born: April 21, 1933 in Woodstock, IL
Died: August 6, 2024 in Barrington, IL
Gene Gulgren, born April 21, 1933 in Woodstock, IL passed away at 91 years of age on August 6, 2024.
Gene married the love of his life, (late) Janet Gulgren, on December 4th, 1954 at St. Thomas in Crystal Lake, IL. They achieved a milestone of 67 years of marriage before Janet's passing. Up until Gene's last days he was still telling the story of how they met-with him sitting in the back of a friend's car and Janet in the front, Janet boldly told the driver to stop the car because "I'm sitting in the back with him!" The rest is history.
Gene, along with his brother Leroy, founded Gulgren TV and Appliance in Crystal Lake, IL in 1959. Being his passion, he was fortunate enough to pass on this legacy business to his son Mike Gulgren, and son-in-law Greg Danielson who successfully still run it to this day. He also dedicated 23 years as a volunteer member of the Crystal Lake Fire Department. In addition, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. In his hometown of McHenry, Gene held the title of Road Commissioner for the Orchard Beach Association for about 14 years. He served on the Board of Directors for Sunshine Mobile Village in Fort Myers, FL. He was also known to be a problem solver and fixer of just about anything.
In 2022 Gene moved back to McHenry, the blessing of which was him living out his days with purpose on Boone Creek where he enjoyed watching the boats go by and the transformation of Miller's Point next door. Gene will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and neighbor Phil.
Eugene is survived by his children: Sue (Greg) Danielson of Crystal Lake, IL, Jane (Greg) Newton of Athens, OH, and Michael (Tammy) Gulgren of McHenry, IL; his grandchildren: Sarah Gulgren, Laura Bergman, Kristin (Steve) Georgy, Katie (Jeremy) Shelton, Mike (Holly) Danielson, Carrie (Aaron) Dicks, Andrew (Brittanie) Newton, Nick, Jennifer, and Shannon Gulgren; and his great-grandchildren: Audra, Jessie, Evan, Owen, Reagan, Olivia, Ella, Eli, Mia, Ali, James, Eliana, Elodie, Gabe, and Jensen.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Janet Gulgren; his son: Philip Gulgren; his parents: Carl and Hazel Gulgren; and his siblings: Eloise McCafferty, Doris Munson, Leroy Gulgren, Wayne Gulgren, and Carol Dingle.

Greg, Sue I know how difficult it is to have both parents gone. But they will be together for all eternity. My deepest sympathies. I know God is holding all of you in His mighty hand.
