Gregory James Gliniecki
Born: July 5, 1961 in Cheverly, MD
Died: June 8, 2024 in Chicago, IL
Gregory James Gliniecki, known as Greg to his friends and family, was born on July 5, 1961, in Cheverly, Maryland. Greg's journey came to a peaceful end on June 8, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois after a courageous battle with gastric cancer. His 62 years of life were marked by unwavering kindness, a brilliant mind, and a heart full of generosity.
Greg met his true love, Dana Lynn Gliniecki, through mutual friends and together they built a beautiful life over 34 years of marriage. Their bond was further strengthened by the joy of raising three remarkable sons: Evan James (wife Carolina Mendoza Lopez); Colin Gregory (fiancée Mackenzie White); and Quinn Matthew. Greg was a proud and devoted father who cherished every moment with his sons and worked tirelessly to give them a life full of security and opportunity. He was the son of the late Edward James Gliniecki and Marilynn Anne Gliniecki, who is still with us at the age of 92. He grew up alongside his three sisters and was a beloved stepson to Millie Schelling. He had numerous friends both near and far.
Greg completed his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois in 1983. Contrary to his report cards, he demonstrated his brilliance and determination through his successful and innovative career. Greg began his professional journey at Motorola, where he contributed to the burgeoning field of cell phones. His entrepreneurial spirit soon led him to join Glenco Engineering, eventually becoming partners with Rick Landuyt in Glenco Development Systems. After selling that company in 1996, they founded RF IDeas focusing on radio frequency security access. His hard work and vision paid off when RF IDeas was acquired by Roper Technologies in 2015, allowing him to retire and focus on his next venture, Computerprox. He acquired two patents during his career but his greatest professional accomplishment was creating a lasting legacy and opportunities for others.
Defined by much more than his success in business, Greg was a man of many interests and passions. He discovered the joy of playing guitar during his college days and continued to indulge his love of music as part of local bands Lincoln Avenue Blues and Blind Squirrels. Greg's love for golf was evident to all and he was thrilled to achieve the golfer's dream of a hole in one on April 13, 2024. An engineer at heart, he also loved watching the SpaceX rockets launch from his balcony in Sarasota and enjoyed the camaraderie of attending Road America with his lifelong friends.
Greg's intelligence, quiet humor, and humble generosity are the hallmarks of his legacy. After a fulfilling career, he dedicated his time and resources to philanthropic endeavors, touching countless lives and making a lasting impact on his communities. His creative and strategic thinking guided his approach to giving back to organizations and causes important to him and Dana. He was deeply involved in Bernie's Book Bank, McHenry County College, the Philanthropy Center at The Community Foundation for McHenry County, the Village of Cary and numerous others. He was also an organ donor.
Gregory James Gliniecki's life was a testament to the importance of family, the pursuit of passion, and the desire to build something greater than himself. He will be remembered for his laughter, his wise counsel, and his steady nature. Though he has left this world, his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. Greg's memory will be treasured forever by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his extraordinary life.
A private Celebration of Life will be held by his family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Memory of Greg Gliniecki to The Village of Cary Fund at The Community Foundation for McHenry County at
