Ida Mae Adams
Born: June 9, 1947
Died: November 16, 2021
Ida Mae Adams, nee Walkington, beloved wife, mother, grandma and sister of Wonder Lake, IL, passed away, with her family by her side, on Tuesday, November 16th. She was born on June 9th, 1947 to Joseph (Paul) & Althea (Benoy) Walkington.
Ida Mae grew up in Ringwood, IL and later moved to Wonder Lake after marrying Clarence Adams Jr. at Christ the King Church in Wonde rLake, April 19, 1969.
A 1965 graduate of McHenry High School, she continued her education at Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Madison, WI graduating in1968. She worked at Kishwaukee ValleyMedical Group for over 35 years both as an office nurse and in managed care. Her greatest pride was running into former patients or having an insurance company say – "If Ida Mae says she will do it – I know it will get done." In December of 2004 she began working at Medcor in McHenry, as a phone triage nurse, until her retirement in May, 2018.
A talented piano player, she lent her talent to the UnitedMethodist Church of Ringwood for many years every Sunday and throughout the year on various committees. She accompanied endless school concerts and solo and ensemble competitions while her children attended Harrison School in Wonder Lake. If she wasn't using her talents playing the piano she was sewing, crocheting or knitting various projects that she couldn't wait to share with family and friends.
Ida Mae was an avid reader, lover of random trivia, and a Chicago Cubs fan through the good, bad and ugly. Countless hours were spent on bleachers watching baseball, softball and basketball. She enjoyed random road trips so she could drive her sports car and "accelerate into the curve." She was the friend you kept forever, and she would never forget a story or a fun time. It never mattered how much time had passed between visits, if you were a friend, you were a friend forever. She loved all things red, and the next time you wear the color red, or drink a Pina Colada, think of Ida Mae and smile.
Ida Mae is survived by her husband of 52 years, Clarence, her children Douglas (Kimberly) of Wonder Lake, Chad of Wonder Lake, Tanya(Kelly) Roach of Wonder Lake and Lincoln of Aurora, her grandchildren, Lillian andJames of Wonder Lake and Chase, Tyler, Luke and Charlotte of Sugar Grove,IL. She also leaves behind three brothers, Jay (Jan) Walkington of Ringwood, IL, Thomas (Maya) Walkington of Eagan, MN and Lee Walkington of Jackson Springs, NC., and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her in-laws, Clarence & Katherine (Kay) Adams Sr.
Visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home on Monday, November 22 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Additional visitation will be from 9:00 am until the service at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 23rd, officiated by Pastor Lori Bee. Ida Mae will be laid to rest at Ringwood Cemetery.
Donations are appreciated in her name to the Les Turner ALS Foundation, or the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab of Chicago.

Prayers from Arkansas for the family today and for the days to come. I worked with Ida Mae at Kishwaukee clinic when our doctors moved there. It was wonderful to chat about our common relatives. Was grateful to learn that my Benoy cousins were able to visit with her. Rest in peace dear Ida Mae and God bless you.

I worked with Ida Mae at Kishwaukee from her first day until my retirement. She was an exceptional nurse as well as an exceptional person. Her parents and my inlaws shared a house in Ringwood during WW 2 when the men worked together at Camp Grant Rockford. Ida's middle name Mae was given because of my mother inlaw's name Mae Boehmke. I have many happy memories of Ida Mae she will be missed by so many people.

To alll Ida Mae's family, Sorry to hear that cousin Ida Mae has passed on. It's been a long and often rough road you all have traveled on together with Ida Mae. I've got many wonderful memories of those long-gone days when I was still living at home on the farm, and Ida Mae was living in Ringwood. As kids, we had a lot of fun together. Especially I remember Benoy Christmas parties in her childhood home and Benoy Thanksgiving dinners in the Church basement ! Also lots of memories of Ida Mae and the rest of us getting ready for the County Fair every Summer. (Remember the ribbons for cakes and skirts made of feed-sack cotton fabric?) Blessings on you all for the support and kindness you gave to help her, years later, through those difficult end-days. Glen
