James Meyer Obituary

James E. Meyer
Born: September 15, 1955
Died: October 17, 2025
James E. Meyer, age 70, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025 after a long and heroic battle with brain cancer. He was born in Chicago, IL on September 15, 1955 to Doris and Eugene Meyer.
Jim is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sandy, his children, Brian (Kayla) and Michael, and his grandchildren, Joy and Owen. Other survivors include his siblings Thomas (Linda), Robert (Vanessa), and Mary (Todd), many nieces and nephews, and numerous special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jim led a very full life, often inspiring others by his optimism, leadership, and devotion to his family and friends. He was a proud and loyal sports fan, especially enjoying the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and the Fighting Illini, from his alma mater, the University of Illinois. He loved playing softball, basketball, and later fully embraced pickleball. He liked to remind his loved ones to SMILE. He was passionate about his family, God, and country.
Jim had a rewarding career in accounting and finance. He used his strong abilities to envision and implement improved resources in the communities in which he lived. He was instrumental in expanding the YMCA gym, and planning a 'field of dreams' Little League baseball complex in Crystal Lake, IL. He led the Lake Country Pickleball Club as it grew rapidly, and was pivotal in bringing 20 pickleball courts to Oconomowoc, WI.
Jim will be fondly remembered for his warm smile, calm demeanor, and perseverance. He cherished all his time with his children and grandchildren. and treasured his days coaching and/ or cheering them on. His favorite memories include time spent boating and participating in water sports with family and friends on lakes in IL, WI, and TN. Together they created endless happy memories.
The Meyers are profoundly grateful to family members and friends for their unwavering support, especially over the past four years. Special thanks to the health professionals through Prohealth's Angels Grace Home Hospice and our dedicated home health nurses.

Oh Sandy and family... my heart has ached since reading about Jim. He was such a kind man, and always had a twinkle in his eyes! My prayers will be with you at random times as you try and adjust to life with Jim. Know I´m praying!

Did this person also live in Wonder Lake, Illinois? It is sad to hear about anyone passing that is about our age whether he is the one that I was acquainted with for a very short time in the 1970s. May peace be with his soul.

We are saddened to read of Jim's passing. We don't think we ever saw him without a big smile on his face. He and Sandy were always so very kind. Their son Michael played soccer with our son Chris. Please accept our sympathy. May Jim rest in peace.
