John Giovingo Obituary

John Lawrence Giovingo

Born: April 13, 1965; in Hammond, IN

Died: February 23, 2019; in East Dundee, IL

John Lawrence Giovingo "Moe, JL, Southside Johnny" died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 23 in East Dundee, Illinois. He was 53 years old.

John was born on April 13, 1965 in Hammond, IN, to his parents, Ann Tirpak and John Giovingo. He was the eldest grandson of eleven grandchildren to grandparents Johnnie Ruth and Lawrence Giovingo. He was a graduate from Hayward High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Throughout his life, John resided in Minnesota, Hammond, IN, Marengo, IL and his hometown of Calumet City, IL.

He lived up to the true meaning of "marching to the beat of his own drum" and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a dedicated Chicago sports fanatic, and was lucky enough to see his Chicago Cubs win the World Series. His recent passion involved the remote-control vehicle hobby, where he enjoyed them during his downtime. For the past three years John was an over-the-road truck driver for Swift Transportation out of Manteno, IL. Simply put, John enjoyed being John.

John is survived by his sisters, Susan Middendorf (Stewart), Jennifer Giovingo (Greg Mino), Christine Giovingo (Sam Murtaugh); and seven nieces and nephews, Katherine, Rebecca, Anthony, Genaro, Ryan, Annabella and Gabriella.

He is preceded in death by his Mother, Ann Tirpak; Father, John Giovingo; and Grandmother, Johnnie Ruth Giovingo.

John will be cremated and the family will celebrate his life with friends during a private ceremony to be scheduled during the Summer of 2019.

For those looking to contribute, the family asks to please donate to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.

Very sorry to hear the passing of John Lawrence. The last time I spoke to him was on Christmas 2018. He sure sounded good and happy that his life was heading in a positive direction and that he was actually "growing up" hahaha. He sure loved his remote controlled vehicles and I'm sad we couldn't get together to run them this summer as he mentioned. He will be greatly missed. R.I.P.
