Joseph Dixon Obituary

Joseph A. Dixon

Born: March 2, 1938; in Gagen, WI

Died: November 29, 2017; in Hoffman Estates, IL

Joseph A. Dixon, a 40-year resident of Cary, passed away November 29, 2017 at St Alexius Medical Center.

He was born March 2, 1938 in Gagen, Wisconsin, the son of Merie Dixon.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Barbara A. (Wilmot) Dixon whom he married on June 23, 1962 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. He is also survived by his children, Mary (Philip Fleck) Dixon and Daniel (Stacey) Dixon; his grandchildren, Anna Fleck, Noah Fleck, Connor Dixon and Cassie Dixon.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Judith Dixon.

Joe started his business career in 1961 for Rhinelander Paper Co. (later Wausau Paper Co.). Joe worked outside harvesting pulpwood, but soon wanted a different path for his career and family. With some help from colleagues, Joe got the opportunity to become a young sales manager in a thriving business. Joe was soon relocated to Elk Grove Village, Illinois then on to Overland Park, Kansas, and finally Cary, where he retired in 1999.

Joe was an avid sports fan. He loved his golf and played it throughout his life with his many business and personal friends. When raising his children in Cary, Joe spent many years working in the community with Cary Youth Baseball, where he was president in the early 1980's. Joe loved to relax watching his favorite sports on TV, attending his grandchildren's many activities, and there was nothing better than a good book sitting in the sunshine at the family cabin in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

There will be a visitation for Joseph on Monday, December 4, 2017 from 10:00 to 12:00 at the Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, 403 Silver Lake Rd., Cary. Funeral service is at 12:00 pm at the funeral home with burial to follow at Windridge Memorial Park.

Memorials would be appreciated to the Cary United Methodist Church, 500 1st St., Cary, IL 60013, or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
