Joseph Hogel Obituary

Joseph (Joe) Henry Hogel
Born: March 29, 1959 in Oak Park, IL
Died: November 5, 2022 in Woodstock, IL
Joseph (Joe) Henry Hogel, age 63, of Woodstock, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at home. Joe was born on March 29, 1959, in Oak Park, Illinois, the oldest son of Joseph E. and Marlene (Olas) Hogel (deceased). On May 9, 1982, Joe married the love of his life, Judy Watson.
Joe was the founder and CEO of Mega Pros in Algonquin. Since 1977, Mega Pros has been in the business of making home projects fun while getting the job done.
Joe Hogel was a man that was tough as nails and warm as toast, and loved to live life every moment for the NOW. His joys for life included helicopter flying, mountain climbing, moss farming, butterfly curating, motorcycling, the beach, one-on-one times, hugs, learning, growing, business, and laughter through it all.
There are not enough words to be said that can describe such a man - a poet, an artist, an entrepreneur unlike any other, filled with radical transparency and the will to Always Show Up in ALL-WAYS.
Through the great words of Joe Hogel, "When I go, I want to be here today and gone tomorrow. I do not want to be remembered for a sad moment, a memorial in any way. I want us to celebrate Life together (I want a big ass party.) We have lived, laughed and loved so much; let's remember all those moments."
He was a man with many titles bestowed by so many loved ones: Partner, husband, best friend, Mr. Wonderful, My Guy, mentor, CEO emeritus, Captain Awesome, Cappy, Pa, Papa, Forum Bro, Tequila Joe, my bud, Mega Pro Joe as the Co-Host of the WGN 720 Radio Station program: Home Sweet Home.
Joe Hogel lived a life of un-stuckness, reflection of thought, knowing there is Only One Now. He lived from the Catbird-Seat, knowing that when it's needed you can always just look up and you're free.
This man has touched his world for those that had the pleasure to know him. Joe will continue to live within us all which is the very best gift to receive. As a twenty-six year member and past president of the Entrepreneur Family Business Council, Joe brought the gift of forum into his daily life and shared the gift with many others.
Joe is survived by his soul mate, Judy Hogel, his two loving sons and six grandchildren; his son, Joe of Denver, Colorado, grandson, Tyler Wallin of Marengo, his son, Jeremy (Ellen), grandchildren Edith, Emma, Eleanore, Evan and Ethan of Spring Grove, his father Joe Hogel of Algonquin, brothers Steve (Kim) of McHenry, Scott of Algonquin, Jim (deceased) (Tracie) of McHenry, Nieces and Nephews Nick, Sam, Jason, Derek, Tyler, Madison, Julia, and Uncle and godfather to Dan Olas of Elmwood Park, as well as many other family members, aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
All are welcome to attend a Celebration in honor of Joe's life at Port Edward's Restaurant in Algonquin at 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 13, 2022, to share a story and hug it out.

My belated condolences to Judy and the family. Joe was always a joy to speak to at family events. I remember my mom Agnes giving him unasked for advice. He always listened and was very kind. May God bless you.

Joe actually called me himself after I had left a question about a project on the Saturday "Sweet Home Chicago" WGN radio show. He was the owner of the company and called me for help. That does not happen these days!.Obviously,a class act.Rest in Peace
