Larry Billings Obituary

Larry Dean Billings
Born: August 9, 1941 in Waterloo, IA
Died: January 23, 2025 in Sterrett, AL
Larry Dean Billings, 84, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, in his home in Sterrett, Alabama.
Born on August 9, 1941, in Waterloo, Iowa, Larry was the eldest of three children of Jenny Billings. He grew up in Chicago and graduated from Lane Tech High School and then attended the Illinois Institute of Technology studying design engineering. He then enlisted as a combat engineer in the U.S. Army and went to Germany. Following his military service, he began working as a design engineer at Victor Fluid Power in Franklin Park, Illinois.
In 1971, Larry met Gloria Glowacki, and together they built a beautiful 52-year-long love story. In 1973, they made their home in Lake in the Hills, Illinois, where they raised their son Todd and created a lifetime of great memories.
Golf was his passion. He enjoyed many days on the course with his son and grandson. In the 1980s, he began working part-time at Pinecrest Golf Course, where he fueled his passion. Around this same time, it seems Larry also discovered a dictionary-or so we thought-because his choice of words on the golf course were... colorful, to say the least. Some of those words might not even be in the dictionary.
Never one to sit idle, Larry became a certified member of the National Ski Patrol at Alpine Valley Resort in Wisconsin, dedicating over 20 years to ensuring the safety of fellow skiers during the winter months.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Jenny Billings. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria Jean Billings; his son, Vincent Todd Billings (Janelle); his cherished grandchildren, Rylee Walter Billings and Skylar Dian Billings; his brother, Edwin Lawrence Billings (Michelle); and his sister, Bonnie Vonderohe.
Larry's warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be deeply missed. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and passion for life will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Uncle Larry & I played golf at his course at Pinecrest! He taught me how to generate more power with my swing. I will always remember that and wish we would have played more golf together. I will miss him greatly. RIP Uncle Larry.
