I don't really know Lenny or the family, but I remember him from 50 years ago.
Back in 1968, Lenny, his brother and a crew of hard working guys built our in-ground pool.
I was only 9 years old at the time, but I remember him working hard over in our Palatine backyard on the weekends and evenings. I remember my dad one evening brushing mosquitoes from the back of his tanned neck, and Lenny said, " They have to eat too!" I still remember his nephew Charlie shoveling some gravel around on a Saturday, and he wasn't even my age. I remember they all worked for Pile Pools at that time, but built our pool and my Uncle Joe's pool back in 1964 out in Elmhurst.
Both pools are still in service today, and when I sold my parent's home back in 2011, the buyer sent a guy out for an inspection on the old pool. When the guy arrived to check it out, He mentioned to me that his father had owned Halogen pool supply in Chicago, so I asked him if he knew Lenny Bladow, and told him he built this pool all those years ago. He excitedly said, " If Bladow built this thing, it's a tank and I don't even need to inspect it!" Of course it passed his inspection.
I have a customer in Inverness with a similar pool, and when I asked her who built it, she said Len Bladow. This was over ten years ago, but she recently told me this was the first year he stopped maintaining it for them, due to health issues.
Because of that information, I decided to Google his name today and was of course sad to see this.
Anyway, I just wanted to share my story about him with his family and friends, and offer my condolences on your immense loss.
R.I.P. Lenny.
