Peter V. Wintersdorf, Jr., age 63, of McHenry, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 16, 1952 in Annapolis, Maryland to Peter V. Sr. and Mary (Rutherford) Wintersdorf. Peter was raised in a career military family, and was able to experience living in many locations throughout Europe and the United States while growing up. On May 10, 1975, he married Janine Horvath in Rolling Meadows.

He attended the former Coyne Institute of Chicago and later received an associate degree from Ivy Tech Community College. Peter became a service fitter in 1978 with Pipe Fitters Local 597, and shortly after, Peter became a journeyman. In 2004, he founded his business, J.P. Mechanical Services, which he operated for many years. His professionalism and knowledge allowed him to serve area schools, churches, and other institutions in the greater Chicagoland area.

Enjoyments included spending time with his family and at his Wisconsin summer home, traveling with his wife, coaching Little League as well as youth basketball and youth baseball.

He was a member of The Church of Holy Apostles in McHenry for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Janine; two sons, Peter (Teresa) Wintersdorf and Jeremy (Kristy) Wintersdorf; his grandchildren, Lillian Grace and Carmela Mary; his great-niece, Emily Wintersdorf; his mother-in-law, Bernadette Drake and his father-in-law, Julius (Carla) Horvath. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Dorine (Robert) Hatch and Sheryll (Greg) Crider; and his brothers-in-law, Michael Horvath, Matthew Horvath, Robert Patrick, and Mark Horvath. He was an uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Matthew (the late Nancy), Lawrence; and a brother in infancy.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, August 16, 2015, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. The funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2015, at The Church of Holy Apostles Cemetery, 5211 Bull Valley Road, McHenry, IL 60050, with visitation at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will be in Holy Apostles Cemetery, McHenry.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to send an expression of condolence may send a memorial gift in Peter's memory to the Montini Catholic School Foundation, c/o Montini Catholic School, 1405 N. Richmond Road, McHenry, IL 60050.

A great man died this week and to most he was another victim of the Big C, too young, too soon. But to me he was the man that filled my sister's life with happiness, adventure and most of all - love. He was the rock that a family was built upon and although his physical presence shall be no more - the cornerstone is he. God has blessed us with his life, we now bless him in his death.

Saddened to see Pete's Obit. Pete was a friend when I was young and he worked at the YMCA. Later, I was amazed to find that his brother Matt was marrying my
cousin Nancy. It was nice to see Pete here and there through the years through my family. (Nickos) My heart goes out to the entire family, and his friends, and esp. Emily whom he loved dearly. RIP Pete.
