Richard Fournier Obituary
Richard 'Dick' Fournier
Born: December 10, 1942
Died: August 19, 2025
Richard "Dick" Fournier, 82, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, at home with his beloved wife of 54 years, Nancy Arlene.
Dick was born to his parents Roland and Irene on December 10, 1942, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Dick lived a life that was equal in parts hard work, humor, and mischief. He married Nancy Arlene (Boshell), the love of his life, on June 6, 1971.
Dick was known for many things: his kindness, quick wit, and endless supply of stories. In contrast to his epic frugal ways, he was also very generous. He would give the last of what he had to anyone he called "friend." He was a gifted storyteller who could make an everyday event sound like an adventure, most always ending with a laugh. He worked hard throughout his career as a custom sheet metal fabricator. The last 15 years of his career he worked as a general maintenance engineer at Crystal Lake School District 47. He retired in 2010.
Dick had a knack for fixing almost anything. He did so by the most affordable means with a mix of talent, stubbornness and creativity. If there was a tool missing or the right part wasn't available, Dick would find a way to make it work anyway. It was this mix of ability and resourcefulness that made him the first to call when something was broken.
Dick was also famously thrifty, a trait for which his family loved to tease him. He believed in stretching a dollar until it broke. But where he may have pinched pennies, he gave endlessly his time, talents and love.
Above all, Dick loved his family. He was preceded in death by his siblings Donald, David, and Pauline, and his daughter Dawn Mounts. He is survived by his wife Nancy Arlene, children Donald Fournier, Jeffrey Fournier (Amy) and Robert Braden. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren, 2 stepgrandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Each one could always bring a sparkle to his eye.
He leaves a legacy of laughter, resourcefulness and love, all of which his family will carry with them always.
A private celebration of life will be held in September where his ashes will be spread on a family farm in Holly, Michigan, and he will join one of his best buddies and brother-in-law, Lawrence.
