Richard Joseph Jelinek, age 69, of McHenry and North Fort Meyers, Florida passed away on April 7, 2015, in Florida.
He was born on April 2, 1946, in Berwyn, Illinois, the son of Edward and Daisy (Bielas) Jelinek. He was married to the former Susan Weaver. Mr. Jelinek was an Earth Science teacher at Grant high School in Fox Lake for 35 years where he also coached track and field. He earned his Master's Degree in education and served as a Boy Scout leader.
Richard was an adoring husband and loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing and to the park, and taking his beloved dog, Boo, for walks. He and his wife Sue liked traveling to Door County and Florida.
He is survived by his wife; his children, Elizabeth (Jonas) Hedsund, John (Cecilia) Jelinek, Joseph (Julie) Jelinek, and Nancy (Daniel) Stanton. Also surviving 13 grandchildren and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Geraldine Jelinek.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2015, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. with a Funeral Mass at 3:00 p.m. at Church of Holy Apostles, 5211 W. Bull Valley Rd., McHenry, IL 60050. Interment will be private.

My sympathy to Mr.Jelinek's family. He was the reason I learned to enjoy science. I will always remember his caring attitude and his sense of humor. I knew him as a teacher, "Banana Club" sponsor, and float sponsor, and later as the parent of one of his track students. He will be missed.

I was so sorry to hear of Mr. Jelinek's passing. I knew him from Grant and later, we became neighbors. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Mr Jelinek was a great science teacher and I carried many of the lessons he taught into my own classes and work with the boy scouts. I am glad I got to tell him that before his retirement.

I can still remember Mr. Jelinek sitting on the edge of the table swinging his legs saying... "What got new for me today" he had such a great since of humor and he always made me laugh in class. He was such an awesome teacher! He will be missed by many. RIP, Mr. Jelinek and fly with the Angels <3
