Roger Kurchina Obituary

Roger William Kurchina
Born: June 6, 1952 in Chicago, IL
Died: December 2, 2021 in Woodstock, IL
Roger William Kurchina, born June 6, 1952, in Chicago IL died at his home in Woodstock on Dec. 2, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose (Paterek) Kurchina; his son, John Charles (JC) Kurchina; and many dear uncles, aunts, and cousins. He is survived by his wife June Kurchina (nee Bouland), daughter Dana Kurchina-Tilling, son-in-law Jeremy Tilling, and dear grandchildren Easton and Riley Tilling. Also survived by his brother Wayne (& Joanne) Kurchina, sister Judy (& Louie) Fabian, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Growing up on 19th Street, Roger had a love for Chicago and always had a nostalgic story about the old neighborhood. He later enjoyed his secluded country life, mowing his lawn, cutting trees, making fires, and constantly bringing home rocks from work to make the house beautiful. His sister Judy would say he was always clowning around and causing trouble, as he enjoyed making us laugh and loved to help anyone who needed a hand. His love for music could be heard as his truck drove through the neighborhood; stopping at most neighbors' driveways for an elaborate story and song request. He performed 15 years as drummer and singer in the band, the Kastels, with his best friend/brother Wayne. He loved all music, but especially singing in the club vibe styles of Elvis and Nat King Cole to weddings and events across Chicagoland. He was recently acknowledged as a 50-year member of Local 150 Operating Engineers, after many hard-working days on heavy equipment alongside his dad, John, brother-in-law, Louie, and later with his son-in-law, Jeremy. He was married to June for 45 years, and they had two children, Dana and J.C. He would do anything for his kids and his grandkids, Easton and Riley. Roger loved all his nieces and nephews just as much; Craig, Jill, Jeanna, Janelle, Ronnie, Jeff, Tom, and especially his two Goddaughters Julie and Jodie. He enjoyed being at the home he so meticulously created and was able to be there for his last days. From the dance floor to his drum set, to the blasting of bass from his many cars and trucks throughout the years, Roger danced to the beat of his own drum. He had SO many friends and we hope to celebrate his life with you all!
