Scott MacKey Obituary

Scott A. MacKey
Died: August 9, 2025
Scott A. MacKey, 71, passed away on August 9, 2025.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carla; his children, Alexandra (Greg) and Sean (Jessica); three cherished grandchildren, Madison, Benjamin, and Vera; his sister Heidi (Larry); and brother Mike (Jan).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene, and his brother, Gregory.
Scott grew up in Marengo, Illinois, where he quickly gained local recognition as a standout athlete in baseball, football, and basketball. He was later inducted into the Marengo High School Hall of Fame. Although he was drafted by several professional baseball teams, Scott chose to pursue higher education and accepted a full scholarship to play baseball at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture.
In 1990, Scott founded Mackey Landscapes, a business he led with passion and creativity. His talent for landscape design, particularly his skill in showcasing native plants, helped transform and beautify countless properties throughout Illinois and southern Wisconsin.
Above all, Scott was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and son. He was known for his incredible generosity, kindness, and quiet strength. A simple man at heart, he found joy in spending time with family, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, and enjoying the outdoors – especially kayaking.
Scott will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Grove in Spring Grove on August 23 from 12-4.
