Alfred Bono Obituary

ALFRED F. BONO LAS VEGAS, NV

Alfred F. Bono, age 78, a resident of Las Vegas, NV, passed away Friday, February 24, 2012. He was born on March 26, 1933 in Gary, IN the son of Frank and Rose Bono. After dedicated service in the U.S. Army, Al retired from both the Gary Fire Department and General Electric. He truly enjoyed retirement with his wife in Las Vegas and socializing with an abundance of friends. Al loved woodworking, creating gifts for others, and was an avid volunteer for Toys4Smiles, making thousands of wooden cars for needy and ill children worldwide. Al's life was the blessed perfect circle because he felt no man could have had a better wife, son, and daughter; but yet, no wife ever had a better husband, or son and daughter, a better father and friend. Al adored his grandchildren: Alee and Austin - the mere mention of their names made him smile. He will be terribly missed by his wife of 57 years and best friend since the seventh grade, Cooky; son, Frank of Memphis, TN; daughter, Susan (David) Gilyan of Hobart, IN; grandchildren: Alexa and Austin Bono; brothers-in-law: William (Patty) Holub and Dominic Bernardi; sisters-in-law: Judy Holub, Joann Bono, and Doris Bono; numerous nieces and nephews; Gary Sportsman Club friends, Sawduster buddies, the Toys4Smiles crew, and countless friends. Preceded in death by his brothers: Frank Romano, Joe Bono, Jim Bono, Don Bono, John Bono, and Tony Bono; and sisters: Mary Kaiser, Flo Turlay, Marge Namovich, Anne Botsko, and Virginia Bernardi. A Mass and Celebration of Al's life will be held this summer with further details from family pending. For those wishing to do so, a donation in Al's name may be made to Toys4Smiles at (702) 218-4582 or: toys4smileslasvegas.org

Mrs. Bono, Sue and Frank,
How sad for all of us but how fortunate for our loved ones who passed who now have Mr. Bono to make them smile! I will not forget the times he made my dad laugh during their firemen days and especially the stories he had to tell! Try to smile when thinking of him as he made so many others smile!

Alberta, your post made me think of my own situation with my husband. We were together 18 years and raised 6 children before his death. Any years of a happy marriage is a blessing. After losing a close loved one it is natural to wonder about the meaning of death. I have found great comfort from bible scriptures. When you get a chance, I encourage you to read what the bible says at Ezekiel 18:4, and Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10. I think you'll enjoy what you find there.

Dear Cooky, Susan & Frank,

We will certainly miss Al & the graciousness he exhibited throughout our friendship. Al was "One in a Million". A great wood craftsman, great Husband & wonderful Father.

Being both an alumni of Tolleston High
School, I'm going miss the stories we swapped, reminiscing about the past. Goodbye my friend.
