Ben,
I never knew you, but I met your father, Ed, when I played a show at his restaurant. He told us about you, and played us your music. He loves you so much, and... if only you could hear him talk about you. You are lucky to have had a father like that. Your music was fantastic. Beyond fantastic, especially for your age... I think that the world really lost something beautiful when you died, and I can only hope that I can meet you in some other life.
Your music sticks with me Ben, and what your father said does too. I never knew you or met you, but somehow... I miss you.

Dear Ed, Haley and Debbie;
Our prayers go out to you at this time in hope that you can find peace at this time. Although the years and miles have separated us for a long, long time we are all deeply saddened and feel that we are all connected in this painful loss.
Magnified and sanctified be G-d's great name in the world which He created according to His will. May he establish His kingdom during our lifetime and during the lifetime of Israel. Let us say, Amen.
May G-d's great name be blessed forever and ever.
Blessed, glorified, honored and extolled, adored and acclaimed be the name of the Holy One, though G-d is beyond all praises and songs of adoration which can be uttered. Let us say, Amen.
May there be peace and life for all of us and for all Israel. Let us say, Amen.
Let He who makes peace in the heavens, grant peace to all of us and to all Israel. Let us say, Amen.
With love,

Dear Benny:
We'd like to share this with all parents and grandparents:
A LETTER FROM GOD:
"I'll lend you for a little while a child of Mine," He said.
For you to love the while he lives and mourn for when he's dead.
It may be 6 or 7 years, or twenty-two or three,
But will you, 'til I call him back, take care of him for Me?
He'll bring his charms and gladden you, and shall his stay be brief,
You'll have his lovely memory as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.
I've looked the wide world over in my search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes, I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love,
Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to call to take him back again?
I fancied that I heard them say:
"Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we"ll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness, We'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known
forever grateful stay:
But shall the angels call for him much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand."
Much love, my darling,

Hi Ben,
I know we just met this semester and we only had a chance to hang out once, but it breaks my heart so much to know that I won't see you in class anymore. You were one of the nicest, sweetest, most sincere people I've ever met. I can't even begin to say enough good things about you. I wish that I had gotten to know you better, but just meeting you and knowing you for the short time that I did was a blessing in itself. I'm sure you would have gone really far with your music career, but I guess God had bigger plans for you. It's sad to have lost such an angel, but now Heaven's gained another. Keep watch over your family & friends. We all miss you..
To Ben's family:
Words cant express the pain i have in my heart for you. I am truly sorry, from the bottom of my heart, for your loss. My deepest sympathy and condolences. You are in my prayers every night. God bless.

For now - all I can say is we are overwhelmed at the outpouring of love and support we have received as a result of Ben's suicide.
Our goal now is give his life meaning - to be able to use his words and his spirit to help others who are struggling.
No one really had any idea how many people Ben touched.
I will post more shortly - but for now - please know that Ben is at peace - and his songs and his beautiful spirit will live on in our hearts.
We are grateful for all of your love...
Stay strong...
Ed Schwartzman - the extremely proud father of Ben.

My heart goes out to all of you. Never did I think another member of our family would have to go through this nightmare. You guys did all could to keep Ben safe from his personal demons, sometimes there is just nothing we can do. Know he has found the peace he was looking for, it is just you guys that are left with the questions, the pain, and the heartache. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

And though nothing can soften this hard time, Ben is at peace and with Him! If there is anything we can do just let us know. It's hard to be so far away at times like these but you are close in our hearts. The kids all send their love and deepest sympathies Ed. God bless and keep you all.

To the Schwartzman Family:
Hello. I just met Ben this semester we had Spanish class together - we were planning on writing a song in Spanish for our midterm project and singing and playing for the class. I'm a fellow musician so we started chatting immediately. Ben and I sat on his trunk and played guitar together after class, shared some original songs, the last song he played for me was "Can't you see." It was really enjoyable to sing together for all in the parking lot to hear! I've known Ben only a short while but I looked forward to seeing him every class. Like many others have said, he always put a smile on my face! What a sweet, sweet boy. I am very sorry for your loss, best wishes to you all.

Ben,
You and I had a few disagreements along the way of the short two years that I knew you. Granted we resolved them in an extremely timely manner, I cant help but feel that I could have been a better friend to you. Your music was and forever will be nothing short of phenominal. It is immortalized in our hearts and minds. I dont really know what else to say. You have inspired me to write a new song. I tried to attirbute some of your guitar in there...I wear a bandana on my arm in your memory.I am pleased to have met your aquaintence good sir...
To the Scwartzman Family,
I`m so, so deeply sorry that this has happened. But the good and light will shine through it. It will bring people closer and make them realize how fragile this life is and to live every moment as if it were on purpose . It will help the poet, the song writer and the listeners and readers as it has helped me. I leave you with my deepest sympathies and one giant hug.
I love you Dana, keep your head up darling.
Sincerely and God Bless,

We will always remember Ben's love for music. We consider it a great honor to have been able to watch him and his songs mature every Thursday night at The Blue Room in Highland.
We remember when Ben only played those Bob Marley cover songs in that Jamaican accent, and then slowly he began writing his own melodies. It wasn't long before his personal catalog of songs was more then enough to start playing headline shows at the cafe.
We consider his lyrics some of the most personal that were ever heard on the cafe's stage.
Ben's music, words, curly hair, and wire rimmed glasses will all be sincerely missed.
Our deepest sympathies go out to all the family and friends he had, near and far.
We will miss you Ben.
Sincerely,

I had the PLEASURE of knowing Ben, and that is exactly what it was...an absolute pleasure. He always put a smile on my face. I knew Ben from dating one of my closest friends, Dana, being a local musician and taking piano lessons from where I work. One of the last times I really got to have fun with him was at my wedding just 2 weeks ago. He was the life of the party...one of the best dancers on the dance floor. He was so kind...one of the kindest kids I've ever known. He was always so polite and one of the best young and certainly up and coming musician in this area.
Words truly cannot describe such a devastating loss.
My heart and prayers go out to his entire family and his closest friends, who I know are hurting more than ever.
We love you Ben.

His music, both in the minds of those of us who remember him and in the recordings we will surely continue to cherish, stand as a testament to Ben's uncommon sensitivity and grand love for others.
