Bruce Olson Obituary

BRUCE C. OLSON CROWN POINT, IN Bruce C. Olson, age 58, Crown Point, Indiana, passed away surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday, August 30, 2016. He was born on July 24, 1958 in Hammond, Indiana to Carol (Olson) Lukes and Leonard Olson. He is survived by his mom, Carol (late Robert) Lukes, sisters: Susan (Terry) Hall and Karen (Sean) Clancy and nephews: Brandon Hall and Trent Hall. Also surviving are his "children" Stinky and Babe (his hound dog buddies). Bruce will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Leonard (Millie) Olson. Bruce grew up in Dyer, Indiana and graduated from Lake Central High School in 1976. He enjoyed everything to do with nature: bird watching, flower gardening, watching sunsets and deer, but mostly he was a fisherman. His second home and favorite place to be was at the family cottage in Upper Michigan where he fished whenever possible and always took time to admire the sunsets. He had a special talent with airbrush painting, drawing and oil painting. He created and patented a character called "Stoney". His other interests were watching black and white movies, history and nature channels. His family was very important to him and he spent many special times with his nephews both in person and by texting. Bruce had a big heart and would help anyone in need! Bruce worked as a supervisor of shipping and receiving at a food processing plant for most of his adult life. He was a very committed and admired worker. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 8955 Columbia Avenue, Munster, Indiana. The visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at a later date and private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to VNA Hospice Foundation, 401 Valley Drive, Valparaiso, Indiana 46383 or a charity of your choice in Bruce's name preferred. Arrangements entrusted to Elmwood Funeral Chapel, Saint John, Indiana. 219-365-3474. www.elmwoodchapel.com

I'm so sad to hear about Bruce's passing and am at a loss for words. Although I hadn't seen or talked to him for 30 years, I remember fondly the four years we were together. He was so kind and was always special to me. I thought of him every year on his birthday since then and was very touched to hear recently that he still used the canoe I bought him for one of those birthdays way back when. Carol, Susan and Karenmy deepest, heartfelt sympathy goes out to you. You and your family are all in my thoughts and prayers and will remain there for a long while. Much love to you and Bruce. May God bless his soul.
