Carolyn Bruggeman Obituary

Carolyn Ruth Bruggeman (Monsma), born on September 17, 1931, passed away on September 30, 2025, in Crete, Illinois.

She was the beloved wife of the late Jack Bruggeman and the proud mother of Bonnie (Mike) O'Grady, Charlene Kelly, and Larry Bruggeman (Kimberley). Carolyn was a caring Gramma to Karen Kelly and Matthew (Kalyn) O'Grady, and a loving Great Grammie to Lukas Jackson and Conor O'Grady.

She is survived by her sister Phyllis (Ray, deceased) VanProoyen and brother Harold (Jean, deceased) Monsma. She was preceded in death by her brother Charles Monsma and her parents, Andrew and Susie Monsma. Carolyn is also remembered by her nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was active in the Thornton Methodist Church before relocating to Crete, where she became a dedicated member of the Crete United Methodist Church in 1997. Her faith community remained an important part of her life.

An avid baker, Carolyn was known for greeting guests with coffee cans brimming with a delightful assortment of cookies. She enjoyed reading, spending time on the computer, and staying connected through text messages. Her dear friends and caring neighbors held a special place in her heart. For twelve years, her faithful cat Lucky was a cherished companion.

A memorial service will be held at Crete United Methodist Church, 1321 Main Street on Monday 10/20/25 at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crete United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
