Corene Buchanan Obituary
Corene Eudora Dye Buchanan passed peacefully on January 26, 2026, to join her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the loved ones who went before her. Corene lived a life marked by faith, kindness, and unwavering love-devoted first to God, and deeply to her family and cherished friends.
She is survived by her beloved children: her son James Dye Buchanan, his loving wife and family; her daughter Linda Buchanan Smith, her loving husband and family; and her son Richard Miller Buchanan, his loving wife and family. James and Richard reside locally in Lake of the Four Seasons and St. John. Corene also leaves behind her dear sister, Judy-Jo Niemiec.
Corene and her late husband, Jim, built a beautiful legacy of love that lives on through 31 children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, each of whom she adored and held close to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Eudora Dye; her brothers, Richard Dye and James Dye; and her beloved husband, James Miller Buchanan, who passed in 2013 after 56 years of devoted marriage.
Corene was born on November 18, 1932, in Hammond, Indiana. She graduated from Indiana University with a degree in teaching and married James Miller Buchanan in January of 1957 at the United Methodist Church of Hammond. Their marriage was one of deep love, faith, and commitment. Together, they later became faithful members of Ridge United Methodist Church in Munster, Indiana.
Corene served her community generously, giving her time and heart through Tri Kappa, the Boy Scouts, as a room mother at Elliott School in Munster, and through blood drives with her church. She believed in showing love through service and quiet faithfulness.
Family was the center of Corene's joy. She treasured large Dye family gatherings during the holidays, enjoyed her bridge groups, and delighted in countless family get-togethers and vacations with her three children, eight grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. She was deeply loved-and she loved faithfully and fully.
In her later years, Corene resided at Hartsfield Village, where she was surrounded by dear friends and a caring community. She especially enjoyed afternoons of Bingo, Thursday musical gatherings, and sharing dinner each evening with those she had come to cherish.
