Darryl Bishop Obituary

DARRYL J. BISHOP "RYL" VALPARAISO, IN Darryl J. Bishop "Ryl", of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully at the age of 66 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 12:05 a.m. He was born in Lagrange, KY on February 11, 1948 to Joseph and Laura Bishop. Darryl graduated from Connersville High School in 1966, served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam and received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1980. He lived most of his life in Valparaiso. Darryl was a passionate man who lived for his family and friends. He was previously employed as a Mechanical Engineer with Arcelor Mittal/Bethlehem Steel from which he retired. In his spare time he enjoyed watching T.V., attending sporting events with his best friend, Randy, reading on his nook and spending time with his wife, daughters and grandchildren. He was great at story telling. Darryl is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Lou, two loving daughters: Shelly (Charles) Foster of Valparaiso, Nikki (Scott) Ferris of Madison, IN, mother, Laura Bishop of Cicero, IN, sister, Mary (Bob) Sapp of Cicero, brother, Steve Bishop of Connersville, grandchildren: Hunter, Chloe, Andrew, Logan & Julia as well as many in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Tim Bishop in 1997 and his father, Joseph in 1986. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso. A funeral service will be held Sunday, August 31, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 2610 Campbell St., Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Tim Bishop/Karen Hancock Scholarship Fund at 1st Source Bank or to Mad Anthonys Children's Hope House in Fort Wayne to whom goes a special thank you for the loving care and support from their staff. Darryl and I attended grade school in Milton IN and were friends and playmates. He moved away about 5th grade and we lost contact. I am pleased to know he had a good life and family.
