David Blomberg Obituary

DAVID A. BLOMBERG VALPARAISO, IN David A. Blomberg, 65, of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2009 at Porter Hospital. He was born June 28, 1944 in Aitken, MN the son of J. Edgar and Verna (Achterkirch) Blomberg, graduated from Aitken High School and Hibbing Junior College prior to receiving his B.S. in Industrial Education from the University of Minnesota at Duluth in 1966. He taught Industrial Arts for 11 years at Union High School in Dowagiac, Michigan then JFK High School in Babbitt, MN before apprenticing as a locomotive mechanic at U.S. Steel Gary Works and going on to become a manager working in General Services and then Environmental Compliance from 1977 - until February of 2009. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Valparaiso where he had been very active in all aspects of church life. Dave was a creative and ingenious problem solver everywhere he went and a compassionate volunteer in his community. He was also considered a personal hero by his grandchildren. On June 1, 1968, Dave married Jill Johnson who survives along with their three children: Tamara (Kreg) Lichtenberg of Superior, WI, Cheryl (Shane) Vander Hart of Pleasant Hill, IA and Gregory (Johanna) Blomberg of Orlando, FL, three grandchildren: Kelvey, Morgan "Mo" and Lillian Vander Hart; four brothers: Clement (Carol) Blomberg of Nashwauk, MN, Harvey (Judy) Blomberg of Aitken, MN, Dick (Marie) Blomberg of Shevlin, MN and Jim (Donna) Blomberg of Silver Bay, MN; sister-in-law, Carol Blomberg of Babbitt, MN; great aunt, Ruth Achterkirch of Minnesota; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, John. A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 103 N. Franklin Street, Valparaiso, IN with Rev. Dennis Deeter officiating. Cremation to follow. Visitation Wednesday 4:00-8:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, IN. Jill and family, We loved working with David. We are so happy you and David we able to make your trip. David was so happy he had time to spend with his children and grandchildren.
