Dorothy Trass Obituary

Dorothy Ann Trass, of Merrillville, Indiana, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2025. She was born February 14, 1948, in Gary, Indiana to Quince Ola Lobdell (Sims) and Clarence Lobdell.

She was a 1966 graduate of Roosevelt High School and retired from Arcelor Mittal in 2014.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Herman Trass, Sr.; her parents, Quince Ola Sims and Clarence Lobdell; her brothers, Sylvester and McKinley Lobdell, and sister, Delpha Ann Lobdell.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories: her loving and devoted children, Tracy Fields, Erika (Marc) Smith, Angela Engleking, and Herman (Jasmine) Trass, Jr.; siblings, Clarence Lobdell, Jr., Mentha Dickerson, Almetter Crawford, Delpha Roberts, and Gwendolyn Sims; grandchildren, Nicholas (Alexis) Fields, Samatha, Jayson, and Douglas Smith, George, TiErika, and TaJuan Hunt, and Layla and Ayden Trass; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with Homegoing Services 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408. Reverend Herman Polk, Sr. of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Hammond, officiating. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park 3815 West 39th Avenue Hobart, Indiana 46342.
