Dragan Prpa

Dragan Prpa Munster/East Chicago Dragan Prpa, age 77, of Munster, Indiana, formerly of East Chicago, fell asleep in the Lord on Sunday, August 24, 2003 after a lengthy illness. Dragan was born in Bosansko Grahovo of the former Yugoslavia to the late Todor and Marija Prpa on Oct. 16, 1925. He was one of five children. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Manda (nee Corak); son, Pero (Mila) of Monroeville, PA; daughter, Marija Tatic of Munster, IN; and his pride and his joy, his grandson Nikola Tatic. Dragan is survived by numerous family and Kumovi and dear friends in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Hamilton, Canada. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Pero, Milan and Bogdan and sister, Sava. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. DIRECTLY at the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church of Schererville, IN, with V. Rev. Dragoljub Popovich officiating. At rest, Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN. Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m at the Lincoln Ridge Funeral Home, 7607 West Lincoln Highway, Schererville, IN (Rt 30 east of Cline Ave.), Pomen prayer service Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. During WWII Dragan fought under the leadership of General Draza Mihailovich with the Freedom Fighters known as the Chetniks. He was very proud to serve his homeland and people with their struggle against communism. After walking to Italy during the exodus and spending time in refugee camps in both Italy and Germany, Dragan came to the United States in November of 1950 and was employed with J&L Steel Company until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Schererville, which was his second home and served in various capacities ranging from Treasurer, Building Committee member and most recently Head Vestryman.
