Enoch Fillinger Obituary

ENOCH L. FILLINGER "FUZZY"
Enoch L. "Fuzzy" Fillinger peacefully passed after a brave and valiant fight with a myriad of health issues. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 33 years, Carol; four daughters: Kimberly Fillinger-Pressnell, Pickerington, OH, Tina (Chris) Peck, Pickerington, OH, Janice Fillinger, Hammond, IN, and Jessica (Robert) Walker, Hammond, IN; four grandchildren: Dalton, Zach, Gabriel, and Brock; brother: Dave (Debra) Fillinger, Orient, OH; sister, Diana Fillinger, Columbus, OH; and many other extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents Frances (Sissy) Fillinger and Enoch L. Fillinger Sr.; sister, Debra Chamberlain; beloved cousin, Fred Fillinger; and many other cherished family members and friends. He had an uncanny business sense and could always make any process or pursuit lucrative. Known occasionally as "Darth Vader" while managing his people, he could always find a way to motivate because he would get right in and become one of the shakers and movers; he was a tremendous leader. His resourceful and intuitive qualities always put him on the cutting edge of new technology and at the forefront of important projects. He was ultimately successful in his pursuits because of his intelligence, innovative nature, and follow through. With over 45 years in the electric motor world (former owner of Southern Electric Coil, long time employee of National Electric Coil, and brief time at Siemens) he was truly a maven and a knowledge power house who had "forgotten more than any of us will ever know". Fuzzy's personality was unique. His infectious laugh could get anyone tickled and his mischievous smile lit up the room. One could always look forward to his witty comebacks and his humor. Politically charged (and oftentimes politically incorrect) he was always well informed of current events and was highly opinionated about absolutely everything. A voracious reader and historian, he had an insatiable appetite for knowledge - he adored learning new things. A troublemaker at heart, he would stand toe to toe with a grizzly bear. His professional boxing experience and training never left him and he was a mean south paw whose bite was every bit as bad as his bark. And of course, his appearance - anyone that knew him admired his style and perfectly put together outfits. Color coordination from his head to his toes, he was akin to an advertisement in GQ magazine. Nicknames were assigned by those who came to know and love him; "Mr. Smell Good" and "Mr. Spiffy" were two of his favorites. A tremendous family man, Fuzzy loved to brag about his daughters and was very proud of them. His wife meant the world to him and they did absolutely everything together. He was very protective of his four girls, doing anything he could for them. Fuzzy's soft side with his family extended to others in his life - he was inconspicuously generous to many, never trying to get attention but always trying to help in ways he could. Some of his favorite things to do included: helping others, spending time with his family, sitting out on the dock at his lakehouse, playing golf with his friends at Briar Ridge Country Club, driving his Corvette, shopping for new digs, and relaxing with his pups and his "grand-dog". He went out of this world in a poetic fashion; in his own time and on his own terms. The doctors told family that love was mercy and we all thought that this was in relation to us…it turns out that he was the one displaying mercy by taking the decision out of everyone's hands. It was always his way or the highway, to the very end. He was one of the greats and nobody will ever replace him. He will be missed every single day by those who held him close. A man of great accomplishment with a tremendously large heart of gold, there will be a permanent void in the wake of his loss. Any and all who would like to pay their respects and commemorate the life of Fuzzy: Memorial services will be held this Sunday (2/7) from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Avenue, Munster, IN. A brief eulogy will be conducted at 3 o'clock. He would want us to cherish his memory by smiling and remembering the good times and we will keep him alive in our hearts by holding close the vivid memories of his life well lived, full of love and laughter. www.burnskish.com

Thinking of the family today! Sending hugs and lots of love Beth

Happy, happy birthday, Dad. Wish we could be going to the hated Schoops with no complaint because it's your day - - -

Mom and I are going to visit Uncle Dave and Aunt Deb for Nate's Graduation party this weekend - can BELIEVE that he is a high school graduate? And that he and Jared are moving down to FLORIDA?! Aunt Deb says they are headed down there as soon as she retires from work as well. Will be good for her and Uncle Dave, I think.

Love you so very much.

Think of you every single day, Dad. I love you so much. Jess, mom and I went to the lake this weekend - I jumped off the roof of the boat house. You would have made fun of me because I was a sissy about it, then punched myself in the face on accident when I finally got the guts to jump. It isn't the same without you there.

Mom and I play golf every week now. We are both not very good but we sure do try hard...you'd have certainly had a lot of tips for us to try. I wish I would have listened more when you were trying to give me lessons before - I'm sorry about giving you an attitude then.

Oh, and Remboy misses you so much too - his grandpa, the snack man.

Would give anything to see you again.

Fuzzy, "what a man." All I can say is "what a man." I remember the day I met Fuzzy. I had the honor of coaching his two wonderful daughters, Janice and Jessica, after they moved to Hammond from Texas. He kindly introduced himself and shook my hand. He said to me, "if there's anything you need, you just let me know." I can tell by his handshake and the look in his eyes that this was a special person that I'd just met. We ended up having a magical softball season as Edison earned it's first state finals appearance in 13 years. Mr. Fillinger was instrumental in helping get the team to all of out tournaments. He was a man of his word. He helped is with everything! He supported us coaches and I loved talking strategy with him. Mostly, he loved his girls. What a joy this man was.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences from my family. my prayers are with you.

Singing "Seven Spanish Angels" ... just one of many happy carefree remembrances of our times in Brownsville with Fuzzy, Carol and other friends. Nodding off during dinner then popping back awake to rejoin the party with jokes and laughter ... So many wonderful memories. Fuzzy was a unique person whose charm was infectious. We will always remember him with a smile. Special love to you Carol.
