Angelika  Monks Obituary
Angelika Monks, 88, of McAlester, died Monday, March 28, 2016 at a local nursing center.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 31 at 
Bishop Chapel of Memories with Dr. Matt Judkins officiating. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.
Angelika Anna was born June 14, 1927 in Kreigsheim, Germany to Ernst and Klara (Jordan) Beyer.  She graduated from Leipzig University in East Germany in 1951 with a degree in physical education.
She was an airline hostess for East German Airlines from 1952 until 1956, and she married Milvon Monks on October 8, 1955 in Mannheim, Germany.  She came to the United States in 1956 and moved to Arpelar in 1971 after extensive travel in the Far East, Europe, and the United States. Milvon preceded her in death in 1991 and she moved to McAlester in 1994.
Angelika joined the Order of the Eastern Star in Heidelberg, Germany in 1957, and transferred her membership to the Faith Chapter #454 in McAlester in 1976.  She was awarded a 50 year pin in 2007.  In 1978, she was appointed as an advisor of Rainbow for Girls and served in that capacity until 2000. Also in that year, she was the recipient of the Grand Cross of Colors for the International Order of Rainbow for Girls in Stillwater. In 1980, she served as Worthy Matron of the Faith Chapter, 1982 was named representative of Kentucky in Oklahoma, and in 1995 was Grand Representative to Germany.  She had been an official interpreter for the German delegation in Canada.
Angelika was a member of First United Methodist Church, having working with the children's programs, and was a member of the Harrison-Powers American Legion Auxiliary post #79, having served as Chaplain for 8 years.
She is survived by a brother: Olaf & Monika Beyer & family of Sommerda, Germany; grandchildren: Ricky F. & Cindy Monks of Lawton; and goddaughter: Elke Schuboth & family of Hochemmingen, Germany.
Angelika is preceded in death by her parents: Ernst & Klara Beyer, husband: Milvon Monks, son: Richard Monks, and a sister: Erka Teich.
