Frank August Holzapfel

FRANK AUGUST HOLZAPFEL KOUTS, IN Frank August Holzapfel, 82, of Kouts, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the VNA Horton Hospice Center. He was born July 1, 1931 in Valparaiso to Frank and Louise (Vitoux) Holzapfel. Frank was raised in Morgan Township and served in the U.S. Army. He was an accountant with Indiana General, then later with Heinold Hog Market. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kouts, American Legion Post 301, and had been active with the Kouts Chamber of Commerce and the Pork Fest. On May 16, 1953 at St. Mary's Church in Kouts he married Marilyn Danford, who survives, along with two daughters: Catherine (Donald) Wilson of Burns Harbor and Gina (Robert "Bo") Bird of Kouts; two granddaughters: Angela (Chuck) Galvin and Danielle Cater; two great grandchildren: Isabelle and Charlie Galvin; four sisters: Catherine (Harold) McGinley of Valparaiso, Rosie (Harry) Blastick of Union Mills, Barbara Holzapfel of Phoenix, AZ and Regina (Bernard) Higgins of Apache Junction, AZ; one brother, Robert Holzapfel of LaPorte; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Simon (Mildred) Holzapfel; and two sisters: Ann (Bernard) Gannon and Mary (Dave) Hannon. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 6 at 9:30 AM from Kosanke Funeral Home to St. Mary's Catholic Church for 10:00 AM Mass, the Rev. Thomas Tibbs officiating with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, 4:00-8:00 PM at Kosanke Funeral Home with a Rosary service at 7:30 PM.
