George Gore Obituary

George "Dick" Gore

Nov. 18, 1940 - July 15, 2023

VALPARAISO, IN - George "Dick" Gore, age 82 of Valparaiso, IN passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023 peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

Dick was raised in West Frankfort, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin "Bud" and Virginia (Franklin) Gore; beloved son, Charles "Chuck" Gore; three brothers, John, Bill, and Jimmy.

He graduated in 1959 from West Frankfort High School and was a star football player who received a scholarship to Southern Illinois College. From there he became a union rep for the coal miners. Later he received a call from his brother, John, asking him to join him in Northwest Indiana to become a realtor. With lively personality he did well. He was a risk taker and became a builder in Lake and Porter Counties in Indiana.

He was a man of integrity, and strong moral compass; generous to many who benefited from his anonymous gifts. Fishing was his passion, which he shared with his wife, Charmaine. They wintered in Lake Placid, Florida, and spent many days fishing at Lake Okeechobee and Lake Istokpoga. Catching crappie and bluegill always meant a big fish fry, which included his famous hush puppies. He enjoyed the outdoors, whether it be golfing or riding the back roads on his golf cart. Dick was a people person who enjoyed telling many stories.

He is survived by his loving wife, Charmaine (Dybas) Gore. Between them they shared three children, Todd (Janet) Gore, Natalie (Dan) Pokorny, and Jessica (Jeff) Wynder; grandchildren: Joey (Brittany) Gore, Jackie (Tim) Williams, Jimmy Gore, Jake (Brittney) Gore, Joshua (Suzanne) Alioto-Gore, Chris (Sarah) Gore, Charlie Byrd, Nora Wynder, Vincent Pokorny, Oliver Wynder, and Violet Pokorny; great-grandchildren: Lucas, Dylan, McKenzie, Jade, Maddie, AJ, Evie, and Elise; in-laws, Elizabeth (Dybas) and David Kepple; brother and sister-in-laws, Christine and Charlie Bucko, Romie and Annette Dybas and Audrey and Peter Rice; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of many good friends. He will be missed by many. May God be with him.
