Gerald Gayda Obituary

Dr. Gerald "Jerry" A. Gayda, 73, of Crown Point, Indiana, passed away on May 12, 2025. A man of great warmth, talent, and integrity, Jerry was trained as a physician but found his deepest joy living and working on the family farm he took over after the passing of his beloved parents, whom he spoke of often and lovingly.
Jerry earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and a master's degree from Syracuse University. Though he held advanced degrees, his true calling was farming, horseback riding, and caring for the animals he loved like family. He raised over 100 Belted Galloway cattle, along with mules and horses he trained himself.
An exceptional craftsman and builder, Jerry constructed his own barn using trees from his land, guided by his motto: "Pay attention to details." He had a gift for design, woodworking, and solving problems with creativity and care.
Generous with his time and knowledge, Jerry was admired by many for his kindness, humility, and willingness to help others. Though he never married, he built a wide circle of devoted friends and will be remembered as a one-of-a-kind soul who lived a life of purpose and compassion.
He is survived by his siblings, Dr. Randall C. Gayda (PhD), Dr. Debra P. Gayda (PhD), and Dr. Donald J. Gayda (DO).
A visitation for Jerry will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave, Crown Point, IN 46307. On Monday, May 19, 2025, a visitation will take place at Chapel Lawn from 9 to 10 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m., at St. Michael the Archangel, 1 W Wilhelm St., Schererville, IN 46375. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
