HARRY G. FERENCE, SR. FORMERLY OF HAMMOND, IN
Harry G. Ference, Sr., age 89, of Mishawaka, IN, formerly of Hammond, IN passed away October 28, 2008 while surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by four beloved sons: Harry G. (Kathy) Ference, Jr. of Demotte, IN, James M. (Kathy) Ference of Lakes of Four Seasons, Thomas A. (Janet) Ference of Winfield, IN and Mark G. (Debbie) Ference of Angola, IN; one sister, Margaret Ference; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Mary; two brothers: William Ference, Sr. and Michael Ference. Harry was born and raised in East Chicago, IN. He was a longtime resident of Hammond and resided in Mishawaka, IN for the last 20 years. Harry worked at Youngstown Sheet & Tube for 18 years and subsequently Midwest Steel until his retirement in 1981. He was a WWII veteran serving for a time under Gen. George S. Patton's Third Army in the 411th Army AAA Gun Battalion and was a member of the American Legion. He was an avid fisherman who loved fishing in Minnesota lakes. Harry was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church for many years and subsequently a parishioner at St. Monica Church in Mishawaka and Holy Spirit Church in Winfield. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 31, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave., Schererville, IN. Visitation will be Thursday, October 30, 2008 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Calumet Area.
