Howard Stout Obituary

Howard E. Stout Munster Howard E. Stout, 86, of Munster, passed away Friday, March 25, 2005 in Santa Barbara, California with his two sons: Larry and Bob at his side at his side. Preceding him death was his most beloved wife, Ruth, in 1997. Born near Muncie, Indiana on May 15, 1918, Howard graduated from Ball State Teacher's College in 1942 where he excelled as a basketball and baseball player and met, Ruth, the love of his life. They married in Quantico, VA only weeks before Howard began a three-year stint in the South Pacific during WWII. After the war, Howard and his new bride came to Hammond to start their teaching careers. Howard taught history and coached basketball and other sports for over 37 years in the Hammond school system, primarily at Morton. Howard loved working with young people and spending time with his fellow teachers, many of whom in retirement formed a weekly golf league in which he took great pride and pleasure. Despite attempts by his sons to lure him closer to their homes, Howard remained true to his "Region" loyalties; his close friends, familiar sights and memories of Ruth. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Munster. The family would like to express its heartfelt appreciation to Howard's fine friends and church members who kept Howard in their hearts and prayers. Howard is survived by sons: Larry (Kathy) of Minneapolis and Bob (Dawn) of Santa Barbara; also his loving granddaughters: Megan and Emily; his grandson, Sean; and his great-grandson, Anthony. He is preceded in death by his elder sister, Mary Elizabeth; and his younger brother, Francis Eugene. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 16, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church. 8955 Columbia Avenue, Munster. Friends are invited to a luncheon immediately following the service at which warm remembrances of Howard can be shared.

Larry and Family,

I send my thoughts, prayers and sympathy to you and your Family.

I remember having your Father as a Teacher many, many years ago at Morton High School. I also recall the many times you sent flowers to your Father. I will miss the conversation and the updates.

Sincerely,

Dede (Solan's Greenhouse)

I am saddened by the death of your father. I am glad he lived a long life and was such an infulence on so many young people during his coaching and teaching career. He and your mother were always big boosters of my speech and theatre work at MHS. He always had a smile for me.

May his memory always be for a blessing!

Bob & Larry:

Wish we could be there, but our sympathy goes out to you. Howard reminded me of my father. I'll miss them both.
