Friends are invited to visit with the family, Friday, October 2, 2009 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to the American Cancer Society, 17060 Oak Park Ave., Tinley Park, IL 60477. Jack taught Industrial Arts in District #215, Thornton Fractional North and South for 35 years. He coached Varsity Basketball for 18 years and won the SICA Championship for T.F. South High School in 1963. He was also the proprietor of the Lansing Dairy Queen and later the Tombstone Inn of Calumet City. Years ago, Jack belonged to the Calumet City Cavaliers, and the Lansing Lions Club. He had an amazingly robust personality with an incredible work ethic he installed deeply into his children. He was forever an optimist and always looked forward to a new tomorrow. Jack loved to hunt and fish and loved to share his stories of Canada with his many friends. As a young teacher, he often recruited students to join him in Canada to help work and fish on the island retreat, which earned him the name "Canada Jack." Jack knew about being a good friend and often visited his friends that were in nursing homes, or shut in from health problems. He loved animals and especially enjoyed visiting his son's dogs! www.schroederlauer.com

Just heard of the passing of Coach Kiester. I played on his freshman basketball team at TF north in 1954. I have many ,many memories of coach Jack, especially of him hauling us back to Lansing on that old Model A ford coupe he had. We looked like the Keystone Cops. Mike Kozubek Topeka, kansas

Sorry to hear about your dad. He was my first boss at DQ and we had so much fun working there. He was a great friend to my dad and I'm sure they are gathering around playing poker up there with all the gang. Thinking of you all and wish I could have told you in person.

Dear Marlene and family,

We're so sorry to learn of the death of your father, Jack. He had an interesting and productive life. He must have been so proud of you. You have his work ethic, love of dogs and the outdoors, you have generosity and loyalty to your friends. A wonderful combination.
May you always cherish the memories of your time with him. You and your family are in our daily prayers.

We love you Marlene.

Even after many years many of us former students still talk about Mr. Kiester's class. He encouraged many students to further their career in Auto repair and other repair jobs.
