John Dunlap Obituary

DEACON JOHN DUNLAP JR. EAST CHICAGO, IN Deacon John Dunlap, Jr. of East Chicago, IN passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at St. Catherine Hospital. He is survived by four sons: Henry (Buffie) Williams of Troy, AL, Christopher (Robyn) Dunlap, Ashley Dunlap, and Derrick Dunlap all of East Chicago; two daughters: Yvonne Carrington of Norfolk, VA and Carla Dunlap of East Chicago; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one uncle, Alfred Matthews of East Chicago; special friends: Deacon Alvin (Jean) Purham of Gary and Deacon William (Iris) Kelly of Griffith; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by wife, Katie P. Dunlap; daughter, Ella "Cookie" Alexander; son, Kevin "Jo Jo" Crawford; parents: John Dunlap, Sr. and Christine Taylor; and sister, Marilyn Dunlap. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 8, 2013, 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church , 4911 McCook Ave., East Chicago with Rev. Douglas Sloss officiating. Interment Fern Oaks Cemetery, Griffith. Visitation will be held Monday, July 8, 2013 at First Baptist Church from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Deacon Dunlap was retired from LTV Steel, veteran of the Korean Conflict for which he received the Congressional Medal of Honor, and a member of the Deacon Board of First Baptist Church. Hinton & Williams Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
