John "Sid" Senko Whiting John "Sid" Senko , age 86, of Whiting, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2004, at the St. Mary Mercy Health Care Center, Hammond. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Agnes (nee Skurka); four children, Janet (Walter) Kopacz, of Crown Point, Daniel John Senko of Jacksonville, FL, Nancy (Alvin) Rockhill of Akron, Ohio and Rita Louise Senko of Ozone, TN; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Clark, Turner Rockhill and Marlene Senko; great-granddaughter, Madelyn Olivia Clark; sister, Betty; (late Charles) Drazenovich of Annendale, VA; brother, Emil (late Virginia) Sabolish of Flint, MI; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brother, George Sabolish. Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 6, 2004, at 9:30 a.m. at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235 119th Street, Whiting. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. at St.John The Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, with Rev. John E. Kalicky, C.PP.S. officiating.. Entombment, St.John Cemetery, Hammond. Visitation at the funeral home Friday 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Members of the parish together with the St.John Rosary Society will offer prayers at the funeral home Friday at 4 p.m. John Senko was born April 20, 1918, in Monessen, PA to John and Anna (Stofa) Senko, was raised by his mother and step-father, Daniel Sabolish and was a long time resident of the Calumet region. A member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Assoc., BR. 81 and was a retiree of General Motors with 33 years of service. John was a devoted husband., father and grandfather. His passion for life was his garden. He loved flowers and vegetables and was a kind and generous man. The Daughters of Isabella Circle 81 will offer prayers at the funeral home Friday at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Masses or memorials to the St.John Church Renovation Fund would be appreciated. 219-659-4400.
