John Yurkanin Obituary

WHITING, IN - John F. Yurkanin, 80 of Whiting, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024 Northwest Health-Porter, Valparaiso. He was the beloved son of the late John and Lucy (Wozniczka) Yurkanin. He is survived by his life companion, Helen Brown; loving brother of Michael (Stacia), Joseph (Barbara) and the late Rose Marie (Peter) Baranko; dear uncle to many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cousins; special friends, Louise Feliszak, John Brown and Anthony Shaffer.
Visitation for John will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 at St. Mary's Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, 2011 Clark St., Whiting, IN from 9:00 a.m. to time of Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Andrew Summerson, officiating; interment, St. Mary Cemetery, Hammond. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the BARAN FUNERAL HOME, 1235-119th St., Whiting. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.
John Yurkanin was born on December 12, 1943 and was a lifelong resident of Whiting. He was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1963 and was a member of St. Mary's Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, Whiting. He was a retiree of the City of Whiting Street Department with 43 years of service. Devoted to his family, John will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Whiting Food Pantry, P.O. Box 591, Whiting, IN 46394, would be appreciated. (219) 659-4400.
