Johnetta Dolon Obituary

JOHNETTA DOLON (MIHALO) FORMERLY OF WHITING, IN
Johnetta (Mihalo) Dolon, 63, ended her courageous battle with breast cancer on December 21, 2008. Johnetta was a truly warm, friendly, loving person and a dedicated wife, mother, sister and teacher. She had a warm welcoming smile and contagious laugh that could light up any room. As a teacher she has touched the lives of hundreds of students and watched with pride to see them progress with their lives. She was born in East Chicago, spent her childhood in Whiting and had lived the past 37 years in Muncie where she was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Church. Mrs. Dolon graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and received her master's degree in teaching from Ball State University. She taught at Royerton Elementary School and was an award winning teacher, receiving the Olin B. Davis state teacher of the year award in economics education and the Lilly Endowment Creative Fellowship Award. One of Mrs. Dolon's areas of interest was acting. She appeared in various television commercials for places such as H.H, Gregg, St. Vincent's Hospital, St. Vincent's DePaul and Mutual Federal Savings Bank. Surviving are: her loving husband, Ronald; their two beloved children: Jill Dolon and John (Michelle) Dolon, both of Los Angeles, CA; sister, Monica (Robert) Hughes of Naples, FL; and two nieces: Lynne (Troy) Blake and Debbie (Matt) Swope, both of Vicksburg, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Anne Milhalo, Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Francis of Assisi Church at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2008. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery north of Muncie. Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ron and Family....Our deepest condolences to you, dear friend....I worked with Johnetta at NIPSCO so many years ago...before we knew our spouses....little did we know that we would marry men that grew up together and went to high school together....You were at our wedding and we were at your's....This loss is devastating....we understand what you are going through and know that today there are few words of comfort...You will be in our thoughts and prayers..We love you and always know you are welcome to visit us....Love, Jerry and Gwen

My deepest sympathies to Johnetta's family. I grew up with her just across the street and few doors down on Lakeview St. in Whiting. She was always a warm and caring person.
