Joyce Duncan Obituary

JOYCE L. DUNCAN OCEANSIDE, CA FORMERLY HAMMOND, IN
Joyce L. Duncan, age 57, of Oceanside, CA, formerly of Hammond, began her journey to heaven on July 17, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents: Bob and Helen Duncan; her nephew, Casey; her dog, Sam; and her cat, Grey. Joyce is survived by her brother, Chuck (Georgene) Duncan; sister, Judy Duncan; nephews: Chris Duncan and Brett Ingram; nieces: Lisa Raven and Julie Urasky. Joyce received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University and for the next few years worked as a child therapist at Tradewinds Rehabilitation Center in Gary. She then moved to Hawaii to attend the University of Hawaii and received her Masters in Social Work. She continued to work on the islands of Kauai and Oahu as a child therapist for the next 18 years before moving to the San Diego area in 1999. She continued to work as a child therapist for the next 11 years until her sudden and untimely death. Joyce was a soulful, caring, free spirit who loved to travel. Among the many places she visited were Antigua, Costa Rica, Malaysia, Bali, Bosnia, Alaska, and all the Hawaiian Islands. Joyce was also an organ donor. She saved two lives shortly after her death. Memorial services were held on July 20, 2010 at the Self-Realization Fellowship Church in Encinitas, CA. No doubt she had a positive effect on the many children she treated and was easily liked by all who knew her. Her family loves her immensely and will greatly miss her.

I did not know this beautiful person. She had done so much with her life and for the lives of all others. God held a special place in his kingdom for people like Joyce. May she rest in peace.
