Julia Laskody Obituary
Julia Catherine Laskody (nee Kalmar), age 84, formerly of Crown Point and Merrillville, IN, passed away peacefully at Golden Living Nursing Home in Merrillville, IN, on Thursday, April 2, 2015. Julia was born to Gabor and Barbara Kalmar on June 12, 1930 in Gary, IN. A 1948 graduate of Lew Wallace High School, Julia married the love of her life, Michael A. Laskody, on August 13, 1949. Together they raised their two children: Daniel Laskody and Kathleen Bandura. After husband, Mike's sudden death in 1968, Julia entered the working world, first at the Ross Clinic in Merrillville, and then for many years at the Mirich Medical Practice, ending her working career managing the business office for cardiologists Drs. Gandra and Orfanos. Julia was a member of Our Lady of Consolation in Merrillville since 1954, where she was active as a teacher of religious instruction. In addition, she served as the parish's Coordinator of CCD for many years. One of her biggest joys was preparing children to receive their First Holy Communion. In retirement, Julia enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends, traveling, teaching at Our Lady of Consolation and the beauty of walking in nature, especially on the trails of the Indiana Dunes State Park. Julia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Gilbert Kalmar; sister, Barbara Kalmar Brkovich; her in-laws: Joseph and Helen Laskody; brothers-in-law: Joseph Laskody, Richard Laskody, sister- in-law, Margaret Laskody Knight; nephews: Greg Kalmar, William Dowdy and Bob Conder. Julia is survived by her children: Dan and Kathy (Tim); grandchildren: Lindsay Laskody, Kaitlin Bandura (Drew) Koessler, Corey Bandura, and Taylor Bandura. She is also survived by her brother, Michael (Carol) Kalmar, sister, Marie Kalmar Dowdy, sisters- in-law: Eloise (Gil) Kalmar, Sandra (Richard) Laskody, Deborah Laskody (Randy) Komisarek; brother-in-law, Jerry (Christine) Laskody, and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may gather at Geisen Funeral & Cremation Services, 7905 Broadway (1 block north of U.S. 30), Merrillville, IN 46410 on Friday, April 24, 2015 beginning at 10:30 a.m. with a procession to follow at 11:00 a.m. to Calumet Park Cemetery for a graveside service. Mrs. Laskody was my third grade 1st Communion teacher at OLC in 1975 and I always remember her as being one of the sweetest teachers I ever had.

My heart is broken. I will always treasure my last visit with her. She was my mother's best friend and my second mother. My life is full of memories of her. She will always be in my heart. What a lovely reunion she is having with all her loved ones in heaven. God bless you all.
